Steering rack
Car in garage today to have the replacement rack installed.
I ran a auto scan this morning as a matter of course and noticed a N145 solenoid error.
Hopefully get this sorted at the same time.
Matt the refurbishment of the rack was done by GB Automotive in Wakefield.

Re: Steering rack
Are you sure it wasn't just unplugged and not plugged back in last time it was worked on?
If they're dropping the subframe, the time to change the engine mount is then.

Re: Steering rack
Just on my way to pick car up.
All done all tested and no more leak which will keep my wife happy (til next time).
12 months warranty on refurbished rack.
Did not remove engine but one really awkward bolt. One notch at a time on a very small ratchet spanner.
8 hours work in total.
Right engine mount solenoid error. Unplugged contacts cleaned. Seems to have solved the problem.
Will arrange to have the tracking checked
And a full service performed.
Matt are you still interested in buying my original rack.

I was chatting to Chris A the other day and he'd quite like it I think - so he can have first dibs on it, if OK with you?steve2003rs6 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 12:11 pmMatt are you still interested in buying my original rack.

£250 plus freight.
The full refurbishment of the rack cost around £260.00.
The track rods were another£138.40
Gaskets/ seals were £24.97
And power steering fluid was £14.27
Re: Steering rack
I’d love to take this off your hands Steve but I’m haemorrhaging money all over the place at the moment what with the extension I’m building, 300 in pieces and the RS still not finished.
Sorry.
Sorry.

Re: Steering rack
No problem Chris. My wife said keep it and have it overhauled just in case you need it for the future.
I will probably do just that. Especially as the bill I got for all the work was half of what I was expecting.
All in for one RS6 Unit.

Re: Steering rack
I seem to have got a bit carried away with myself since I don't really think I need 3 racks. I was thinking of having a spare spare - which is perhaps excessive.
So anyway, if you want shot, I'll have it rather than it getting disposed of since it'll be useful for one of us eventually. But if you're not desperate to move it on, I don't have an urgent need. I just wanted to make sure it doesn't end up in a skip since I am sure it's a good rebuildable unit that will be useful to someone on the forum to have rebuilt sooner or later.
Who did the rebuild on your one? Was it this lot? https://www.google.com/maps/@53.6856024 ... 384!8i8192
Nice slippers.

Re: Steering rack
Yes Matt they did mine. Must admit it looks brand new and straight from the factory. And has 12 month warranty.
Re my old one. I will have it overhauled for the price they charge. Definitely ain’t going in a skip it’s far too good.
Only fault it had was a very very slight oil leak.
And I have new gaiters that I bought a while back.
If I didn’t have a new block paved driveway I would have lived with it.

Re: Steering rack
This must of been taken a few weeks ago as it’s before I had the nearside headlight done.
Just noticed. This pic was posted on 15/12/2022.
Wow how time flies.
