Unsure of whether to sell my RS4

Hi,

Whilst I love my 2001 Avus RS4, I'm considering selling her to get something a bit more sensible.

It's done 75k miles and has an AMD stage 1 remap. It's also just had the cambelt, bearings, water pump and full service done as well as having a new exhaust probe, temp sensor, AMD diverter valves, a cv boot and 2 new tyres fitted.

It's got satnav and unmarked alloys and is in really good condition.

Any ideas how much it's worth and where would be the best place to sell her?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alright then.

Firstly how much more sensible is this other car going to be? Does it really make any sense to sell now? I reckon an RS4 in good condition, currently worth say 24K GBP is a pretty financially sensible car. Depreciation won't be bad - you could keep it another 5 years and still get 12K GBP for it if RS2 prices are comparable. So 2400 GBP per year depreciation - you'd have to be in the realms of old bangers to do much better than that.
If you do a lot of miles the fuel costs make the sums look less good, of course.

If you're going to sell, I'll state the obvious: start with this forum and with pistonheads.com. If no joy there it's the wonderful world of Autotrader with its chancers and dreamers. If you're considering selling to the trade www.fontain.co.uk is an obvious place to start.

Just went through the same decision with mine.
Car was at 69K miles and I would have put another 15k on it in 12 months so decided to sell now while I could still get resonable money for it.
Pistonheads is a good bet, have sold 2 cars through there, Fontain would offer you about 21K if you are lucky!

cheers viffer. you're certainly right about the depreciation curve. my concern is that it the repair bills may start to spiral out of control. i'm paranoid about my turbos letting go (not that they necessarily will) and the potential bill of repairing them. the car is running sweetly at the moment, so you could argue that it's the best time to sell, or that i should keep it and enjoy it while i can. the decision as to what to replace it with is very tricky - need an estate for the dog, need performance for my sanity, need low running costs for my bank manager.

Exactly what happened to me derdle but I did have an excuse I was out the country setting up another business abroad and didnt think I'd be coming back so soon.

I actually bought my second one over the phone from an Audi dealer two days before I arrived back so I could pick it up on my return - deaperate or wot?

Exactly what happened to me derdle but I did have an excuse I was out the country setting up another business abroad and didnt think I'd be coming back so soon.

Humm that's beginning too sound familiar...although I am pretty sure I won't be continuously back in the UK for a while BUT am still thinking about buying another B5 anyway for my UK forages

personally if/when I am lucky enough to get an RS4 (I have an S4 at the mo'), i don't think i'd want to let her go. Ever. However, i feel your pain re: fuel and potential future servicing. If you need an estate, fast and good fuel economy, you could do worse than look at the BMW 535d touring (sacreligious comment on here i know, sorry guys ). Not as fast as an RS4, but it has enough torque to make your nose bleed (400 lb/ft IIRC) and returns combined fuel consumption of 35-40 mpg. In real world terms it is a seriously fast car.

However, i have no idea if it falls within your budget or not.

great minds think alike, as i'd decided that would probabaly be the car to go for. thing is, i do really love my rs4 and at the moment she's running really well. i guess it's better to sell it when it's running well, rather than try to pass off a sick one onto some unsuspecting newbie. i couldn't live with myself.

there seem to be a load for sale at the moment. perhaps everyone is upgrading to the new rs4?

i used to own m3's and got rather annoyed by the lack of service at bmw dealers. that said, they're probably no worse than audi dealers.
