Dilemma???
Dilemma???
Ok, ordered my RS4 last Wednesday for delivery in July, paid my deposit and was looking forward to some fast summer motoring.
Bad news - My dealer has just called to say that despite Audi saying they still had cars available they have tried to order the car on the system but Audi won't/can't take the order. All the cars that apparently were on screen when I was in the dealership have gone.
Slightly good news - Miraculously they have found me a car for delivery in March but the spec' is not what I'd hoped for. Right colour, Daytona grey, tech. pack, TV, etc. but 18" wheels, no sports suspension and no dimming mirror, auto wipers, home pack. The mirror etc. I can live without but is it too much of a compromise to take the car without the sports suspension and with 18" rims. Asked about price and I'll have to pay list, no sorry about that, have a discount, discount.
Thoughts?

RE: Dilemma???
The RS4 we had at Donnington had both the sports suspension and 19" wheels - the ride was very good on the track, but Jan(?) the Audi professional driver suspected that it would be too harsh for UK roads. Do you plan on attending a few track days with it?The mirror etc. I can live without but is it too much of a compromise to take the car without the sports suspension and with 18" rims.
If you are concerned about the alloys (am I right in thinking that the 18" option is basically RS6 style alloys?), then as this is a no cost option from the factory, they should be able to change them for you at the dealer at little cost to you. This might affect resale, so I would push hard.
Just my 2p.
RE: Dilemma???
Same here, get them to swap the wheels and you're away, and three months early! No idea why anyone would spec those 18's.
Also wonder how 'miraculous' it was they actually found one? The cynic in me thinks there are more knocking about than those of us with them on order would like to think...
Enjoy.

RE: Dilemma???
Yes, the sceptic in me says that they could still actually order the car but have been offered this car by Audi. Perhaps I was the last one to order at the dealership and thought perhaps they can offload this car onto me.
I did ask what would happen if I didn't take the car. Didn't really get a clear response but I was lead to believe I wouldn't see one this year. For those of you in the know would that be the case do you think?
If I wanted the 19" wheels how long would it take to get them do you think. The dealer is obviously going to tell me they can't send the 18" back and charge me accordingly.

RE: Dilemma???
The dealer will not be able to change the wheels at the same cost from the factory - once the car has ht the dealership Auid will not chnage wheels -- I have not priced the 19" wheels - but they are going to be at least 250-300 each(if not more) plus the tyres -- I would say you've got no chance of the dealer taking that kind of hit.
That said I wouldnt go near an RS4 with 18" alloys --- those 19" are just sooooo nice.
I was told yesterday that of an allocation of 650 cars -- 639 had confirmed orders --- although that info will have been a couple of weeks old -- so it is quite possible that they have sold out 2006 saloon production, the sales office closed the ordering for RS4 a couple of weeks ago -- any remaingng slots were being allocated via them -- first to any people on the list and if any left over the dealer would have to negotiate with the sales office.

RE: Dilemma???
Got the full spec from the dealer now for this car. Next problem is that whoever spec'd this car swapped the RS4 wheel for the 3 spoke sports one. Does this also delete the sports button?

Today my brother in law found out that our cars might be here a lot sooner then June, maybe even March..
Although i am happy to be getting the RS4 sooner rather then later, i have planned all my finances and my insurance etc round getting the car round May/June.. Not a major inconvenience to change it back again and try and scramble the car as soon as possible, but all this bollox where they won't tell you what is really going on is really starting to annoy me now.. How come some dealers have got demo cars in, and most haven't.. why do some customers who have deposits down get to have a ride in the dealer training car, and others have to wait and watch videos on the internet and can't even see the real thing... wouldn't mind if we were all in the same boat, but obviously some dealers are getting a lot of privilages here.

I don't know how anyone got a ride in the training cars - in fact I doubt they did -- might have been allowed to sit in it -- we were told by Audi in no certain terms that NO ONE would get a ride in these cars -- although they guy that brought ours said that he would love to be able to demo the car properly -- again he was warned against taking anyone in the cars.
I was called by my dealer on Friday to say that they had a Misano Red RS4 in their dealership for staff training and told me the car looks and sounds fantastic. When I asked why he didn't call me to let me see and drive the car he said that he would have got into trouble even telling me that the car was there and even they weren't allowed to drive the car. He did say that all the cars would arrive with 60 miles on approx. as they would be fully testing each one in Germany before they arrive. Also each dealership will drive them for 10 miles while carrying out the PDI. Hope they don't thrash them whilst doing this.
