Opinions please

Post by stuartbarriskell » Tue Sep 06, 2022 9:48 pm

Bought a B8 from a member on here 3 weeks ago, as part of the deal I insisted on the car having a years ticket, owner was happy to provide this and booked it into Ayr Audi, they done a health check and said they wouldn't pass the car as both front tyres were gubbed which I knew about and had negotiatiated on the price with the owner due to this, the rears were passable but I was going to do a set of tyres on it afer I picked it up from him anyhow, he and I had both assumed it would have passed an MOT as it stood..... anyhow long story short, I had instructed the current owner to fit a set of Pirellis and I would pay for them which was done, it also failed on two other items which the owner had repaired at his cost..so happy days..

Last week I trashed a rim on a kerb, today I dropped it off at a local garage to have them all powder coated, the garage called me to tell me the locking wheel nut supplied was the wrong one, it was for a Merc ! ...checked with previous owner and he confirmed where the locker would be and it was exactly where he said however, as stated it was off a Merc, there is no other locking nut anywhere else in the car.

Called Ayr Audi at 11am today and explained the situation to a lady who said she would pass this to the service dept for a call back, needless to say the callback never arrived. I'm out an additional 50 quid for removing the nuts and 30 quid for a replacement set of lockers...

I will call them again tomorrow, however I'm in two minds to pursue or let it slide..what would you do ?..

Not forgetting there's some poor bastard cutting about in a Merc with my locker in his boot..

I'm just glad it happened in a garage..

Hi
If it was me, I’d just let it slide knowing that a merc owner is in the same boat, and may have to pay more than you paid!!

All Audi dealerships have a master set of locking wheel key bolts for the instances when a car is in for service and it isn't with the vehicle. In the past, when I've bought a car privately and there is no wheel bolt with it, I have done as you have - taken a photo of the pattern of a wheel bolt on the car, and they have matched it up against the master set and then ordered the correct replacement key. A lot of CBA comes into it, but if they are interested in retaining your future business.... It would also delay your wheel furb for a few days, but the other plus is it may avoid the likelihood of further wheel damage round the hub of each wheel, depending of course how they ended up removing the existing bolts.

All sorted last week Jonnydog, local garage to me specialises in refurbing rims, powder coating, Diamond Cut etc.. so they got the rims off with their master key, I got them Powdercoated Anthracite and their perfect..

Bought a new set of lockers from Halfords too, so all good
