Immobiliser

Post by bobjebb » Wed Feb 08, 2006 11:40 am

I'm due to collect my car on Monday, and have learnt that it has had an additional immobiliser fitted, so thats all fine. However, Listers have no paperwork with it, and this includes a PIN to overide it. It's a Autowatch 171 PPI if any of you are experts!

These things in my experience always go wrong, and I'm fairly stuffed if I don't have instructions/PIN numbers etc.

Am I right to put the onus on the dealer to sort this out? I'd almost rather it wasn't there, but it's £150 to remove, and I ain't paying it!

Cheers for advice.

Just tell them to remove it if you don't want it, but in any case, the onus is on the dealer. If they don't do as you ask, they lose a sale and a big commission at that one too.

Talk about belt and braces. The standard Audi immobiliser is pretty good. Check that your car has a tracker fitted as most insurance companies will not touch it without one. If you cannot get the information then the dealer should remove the extra immobiliser at his cost. Also, I suggest getting it reprogrammed for anti-hijack mode where one press on the unlock button only unlocks the drivers door, a further press unlocking all other doors. Also, when you lock the car it gives an audible warning. I had my dealer replace the drivers door handle with a blank one so the only lock is now on the tailgate, however this can be double locked. When our friendly teaa leaves look at my car and don't see a key hole they move to the next car.

Thanks for the info chaps. I've had the necessary assurances. So do you mean the standard Audi system can be programmed to just open the drivers door first? as that would be something I'd like to do. Also interested in what you had done with the passenger door lock! Was it expensive?

A final question - the car does have a Tracker, according to the dealer, but I've no more info than that yet. Were these fitted as standard? (6+) If so what model was it?

Thanks again.

Sounds like you need to get onto the dealer about this to get things sorted out, I would want to see evidence from Tracker that it does have one fitted, get the dealer to speak to them direct.

I would deffinately get them to remove the imobilsier if they cannot give you a pin, free of charge of course.

They should also programe the locks FOC in my opinion.

Sold the RS4 yet?? Or are you trading it, if so what have they offered?

Any Audi can be reporgrammed with the anti hijack facility. The RS6+ came with one door lock on the drivers door. My dealer fitted a rear offside door handle to the drivers door and now I have no door locks, only a tailgate lock which can be double locked.

I forgot to mention that the anti hijack program also locks the doors when you go more than 10mph.

Tracker Horizon fitted, just called them with chassis number. Anyone got this? Presume it's worth taking on the subscription?

Cheers

I have tracker horizon fitted and yes, it is worth while keeping up with the subscription. This was fitted to the car from new and I went for the lifetime subscription option but I do not believe that it is transferable to a new owner.

I personally think so. I actually paid up my subscription the day before I picked up my RS6 just in case ... (of what I'm not sure).

Anyway, mine has got the Tracker Monitor fitted. I got a call from Tracker last Friday to say the movement sensor on my car had triggered. After a moments panic I realised it was at Audi having it's service done. I'm presuming it must have activated when the technicians were lifting it up on the ramp. I'm quite re-assured that the technology works after that little incident.

Rich.

Which reminds me:

"If a TRACKER Horizon equipped vehicle is illegally moved, a movement sensor hidden in the vehicle sends a signal to TRACKER HQ."

how do they know when it's being "illegally" moved?!

I presume if the cars motion sensor is activated without the key being in the ignition.

All RS6 cars supplied through Audi UK had the option of a standard Tracker at zero cost. I paid to upgrade to Horizon.

The description of the 'anti-hijack' facility mentioned above is a little confused - it's actually three different features which can all be enabled independently:
1) Beep on locking
2) 2-stage unlocking (driver's door on first press, then rest of doors)
3) Lock on speed (all doors lock when the road speed reaches 15kph, and unlock when the key is removed form ignition)

On cars built up to July 2003, this latter feature is not reliable - it may not always activate. There is later firmware for the central locking controller which fixes it.

These features can all be enabled, very easily, with VAG-COM. If you come along to a Windsor meet (always last Wednesday of the month), I can do it for you.

Thanks, judging by the owner's security conciousness I wouldn't be surprised if that's all been done already.
