Ignition noise

Post by steve2003rs6 » Fri Apr 01, 2022 1:29 pm

Been using VCDS a lot recently.
I have noticed that with ignition key in position 1 there is a loud continuous buzzing noise coming from the dash.
On the very odd occasion it is silent.
As a consequence I have had the engine running while I am using VCDS.

I presume it should be silent with key in position 1.
Anyone else have this annoying noise. Or even know how to resolve it.

Any advice much appreciated as usual.

Record the noise!

There is a fuse box somewhere so it might be something in that buzzing.

Mine has a random buzzing that seems to happen in warmer weather. Never got to the bottom of it. Sounds right behind the clocks.

Spot on suz. It seems to be behind the clocks.
Like something is constantly being energised. Vanishes when you start the engine.

Just playing around.
Ignition in position 1
Climate control kicked in
And noise went off.
It may be coincidental will see what transpires with playing around a bit further.

Turned climate control off.
Key put to position 1 and no noise.
Will see how it goes.

Noise seems to be something to do with the climate control.

Forget that.
Climate control off
Key to position 1 and buzzing back.
Does seem to be behind the clocks.

I hardly ever have the radio on.
Prefer to listen to the other rumble.

Will mention it to grizz when I am there in a fortnight.
Although I am now a “Audi tech” I am not electronic experienced yet.

If it sounds like a gritty constant whine, very likely it comes from the throttle body. After 10s or so it just goes...

Classik no mate it’s not a whining noise.
It’s a constant buzzing 🐝 noise.
It appears to be linked to the climate control unit. And coming from behind the clocks.
With key in position one and noise on. Switching the CC on and off removes the noise.
Just something else to look at next week.

To be fair I have had this since I bought the car in 2012.
The only time my key is in position one is when I am using VCDS.
After having lots of work completed.
I am now at the stage where I am being very fussy. Only happens when key in position one.
I should really forget about it.
But OCD won’t allow me to do that !

I'm sure there's a little fan unit that senses the interior temp for the climate control could it be that? Do you have a solar sunroof?
