bad luck/good luck

Post by RS4inGermany » Mon Jan 30, 2006 10:13 pm

Today on my way to work driving down the Autobahn I hit a bird at about 200 kmh. It shattered the right side headlight lense, broke the grill and dented the hood.

At lunch I went to the dealer to find out what it was goning to cost to get a headlight put in so I could drive home tonight. While I was waiting for the parts guy to get the price put together I wandered over to the sales floor and was quite supprised to see a shinny new Daytona Grey RS4 sitting on the floor with red tags on it. I asked the sales manager if it was possible to get a ride in the car. At first he thought I was just wasting his time, but when the parts guy came over with the quote for the parts for my RS4 the sales manager channed his attitude. After talking with him about the car for about 20 minutes he asked me if I'd like to take it for a short drive to compare it to my "old" car. :D

Overall I liked the car, it's what you'd expect an Audi to be like inside, outside it was ok although I much prefer Avants, (can't wait to see it at Geneva). What blew me away was the sound of the motor as it revs, and the exaust when in a tunnel! The power was ok although to be fair the car was brand new, 25 km on the clock and I only got 5 km behind the wheel. I imagine when broken in and not having a salesmanager sitting next to you it would be very nice indeed. What left the biggest impression on me were the brakes, even though they were not bedded in when I hit the brakes simulating a panic stop at 100 kmh it felt like the car hit a wall, the car just stopped.

All in all wish the "old" car had'nt have gotten the damage but, I'm glad I went into the dealer and got a drive in the new RS4. When the Avant comes out late this year early next year I'll go have another drive and decide then.

harry,

What'd it cost you to get it fixed? Mine is going to set me back the 150 Euro deductable because the cheapest of the three estimates I had done for the car came in at 1200 Euro.

Oh well, guess I get the hood and bumper re-sprayed out of this ordeal.

My German freund,

Cant remember exact prices and dont have the receipt to hand plus I had the repairs carried out whilst having upgrade work done so hard to give exact value but approximately:

fog light and bracket £ 80
bumper £250
intercooler £600
bonnet dent fixed ????
front end respray ????
labour ????
vat ????
------
£1,500+

intercooler was the killer here and the vat (always)
Oh well, guess I get the hood and bumper re-sprayed out of this ordeal
I took the liberty of getting the sills done aswell due to the girlfriend scuffing here high heels on the passenger side more than a few times. She now does alot of walking which has really toned her legs - something that she gained out of the ordeal. Its not all about me you know! LOL
