Recommended oil for RS-6
Recommended oil for RS-6
Since I bought my RS-6 several years ago, there has been an evolution in Castrol products and I was wondering what is now recommended for the RS-6. My car is used mainly in spring/summer in Europe and I drive fairly quick.
What I hear is that Castrol Longlife III is very good, but it is offered in several grades from 0W-30 > 5W-30 > 10W-40, ranging in VW spec 503.01, 502, 504 00, 505, 507 00
Let me know what your favorites are.
Thanks!

RE: Recommended oil for RS-6
Note that the oil specified for the RS6 is to specification VW 505.01. This is the oil which is normally used for diesel PD engines without variable service interval. This has traditionally been a 5W-40 weight.

Re: RE: Recommended oil for RS-6
So, which oil would you sell for the RS6? I've looked through the specs on your website for all the Castrol oils you carry and none mention VW505.01, which is what my RS6 Owner's Manual specifies.oilman wrote:.........

Re: RE: Re: RE: Recommended oil for RS-6
Nope! The RS6 has a V8 4172cc twin turbo petrol engine. The oil specified for this engine is 505.01.oilman wrote:I assume by the spec that your car has a PD engine.

What year is the car?
And is it on variable servicing or fixed servicing schedual?
Cheers

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Recommended oil for RS-6
The car is 2003 production. The RS6 is not eligible for a variable service interval regime.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Recommended oil for RS-6
After more research and a reply from Castrol in the UK:
Audi has now recommend the use of VW 504 00/507 00 5W-30 across the whole
Audi range - including the RS4 and RS6 so the Castrol product in this
case would be EDGE 5W-30. (In France it's called SLX Longlife III)
According to Castrol, the EDGE Turbo diesel 5W-40 which meets the VW 505
01 is very good. ( Ignore the "Turbo diesel" name - it is suitable for
petrol and it meets the important VW 505.01 spec )
Should the EDGE product not be available, Castrol TXT 505.01 can be used

The new 504 and 507 is a catch all spec that covers all old specs.
