I’m sorry I’m late to the party, but you absolutely don’t need to remove the bastard bolt to do the shocks

It’s almost worth the hassle for the sense of triumph and relief, isn’t it?
Almost :biggrin3:

By removing the whole shock assembly i can see/check for worn parts better maybe.

There are only two reasons not to remove the pinch bolt:
1. The bastard bolt is siezed
2. Don't want to know the bastard bolt is siezed

Otherwise it is a two minute job and the more it comes out and gets a slick of anti sieze, the less chance of it being siezed again.

.................and while we're on the subject of on the road again, took the RS6 to Church this week. 400 Km drive and a week staying in an old church to repent and visit the vines that are nearby.

And as they left the pulpit behind, I can read myself a sermon or preach to the converted if I get bored.

Am i right looking at the pss9 guide, the left and right top mount are hold by only 2 bolts?
The ones behind those covers? (This pic is from the right side looking forward...)

Not sure if i loose those 2 bolts, the spring is loose too?
Or will it come out in ons piece and have to loosen the top of the shock shaft and get the new ones in and connect top new shock?
Because i dont have a complete new setup, i re-use the topmounts etc.
I thought the whole lot has to come out, incl toparms...

Be careful what bolts you undo at the top. You will need to get the geometry done again if you do the wrong ones.
