only vented. Suspension is better than brakes in my opinion. I only got the RS4 suspension cos it was cheap.
In 20k miles ive gone through 2 pairs of front discs and a pair of rears.
Giving the scoobs a run for there money don't help

Hmm... well I think they are worth what ever someone is willing to pay... So if that sells for 11k then its worth 11k...All l depends on what you are looking for. Best example I can think of is A3 black 4 door 110 TDI.... I was looking one about a year ago. I knew trade I could get an A3 Tdi for as little as 5k, but time came and went until I saw one come up 150 miles away... It was up for 7500, which I thought was a bit much, so I offered 6500 over the phone and he turned me down. So I popped down the next day to look at it and perhaps bargain with him.... But it had already sold for the asking price! Lesson learnt....

To be honest silver ones seem to hang around for a lot longer than black ones and the other colours.... Someone who has been looking for a while for the right colout /interior combo isnt probably going to give too much thought to an extra 500 quid..... al depends on the work thats been carried out too...

I mean I personally went for an early one cos I got it cheap and in all honesty dont fall for the manufacturers hype about "new" models. The only real improvements in the later models is the manifold and the little image tweaks and probably the rear disks but all the rest is "sales" stuff..... and if you can get a pre facelift for 1k less than a facelift one with the same mileage, if the manifold have been changed I think the pre facelift would be a better buy....IMHO of course

another good example is the polo.... same chassis design right the way through from the audi 80 in 1976 right through to 1994... yet if you read the sales spiel youd thing it was a whole new car......PLUS as you all know its all about the cars history, Anyway I am bias I have a pre facelift

Interesting

Just had a chat with Fontains (they called me

) - the Noggy Avant in the advert is a pre-facelift, so IMHO, with exception of the 18" wheels, and 72K, is quite expensive. Also has DIS (is this worth any extra? useful or useless option?)
No record of clutch, cambelt nor pads/discs being changed recently, so quite alot of potential expense looming, me thinks.
Also mentioned about the manifold issue - he hadn't heard of any problem, but mentioned that the first 98-registered cars had heatshield issues.

What was rather suprising was that I offered to public transport the 110 miles down to Fontains for a test drive, only to be faced with the "we only do test drives if the interest is bordering on purchase" comment!!!! I found this kind of shocking, as with all due respect to you guys, it's an S4, not some type of supercar. I could get a test drive in a £30K Subaru tomorrow - what's the deal with an £11K used Audi??

Thankfully, time is on my side - I'm in no hurry to buy, but would expect to be in one relatively soon

LOL... I actually prefer Alcantara.... I guess Im just different, I find full leather seats simply just dont hold you as well.... well me anyway...

hmm interesting - just looking at the service schedule for 1999 A4 V6 (same as S4?)

says that the timing belt doesn't need changing until 105K - is this true?

for the 1998 model, this is 90K......

If so, is the cam belt a major consideration when looking at a B5 with circa 80K on the clock?

Book says 80k on the S4. Nice to see it changed about 65k.
If you wait til 80k then russian roulette it is!!
If you get the belt changed, Dialynx seeems to be the cheapest. See thread on it.

And yes, i have chocolate munching kid!! (although he's not allowed to eat in the car!)

back to the facelift timing mine was registered on 19 april 99 and is a facelift model although it does have the analogue clock,i can only assume the facelift was done early april as there doesn't seem to be any march registered facelifts

Mine's a facelift and without looking at the paperwork I am pretty sure it was registered March 99. Mine has the analogue clock (much prefer it).
