Injectors cleaned at home

Did this at home with my wife’s jewellery cleaner. Was quite happy with the results if I’m honest. They look brand new, I’ve pressure tested them and they’re not leaking which is good news. Tbh was nothing wrong with them to begin with but seeing as the engine was apart why not.








I’ve come to realise one needs the special injector seal installation kit which I found on eBay for £36. Best of all my mate who’s a VAG mechanic has decided he should buy one after all so. I’m going to sell the tool kit to him for £35, one careful owner and all that

Said kit, no completely redundant in my garage. Definitely essential for changing those injector seals.



Not too sure about this one though. Had I of waiting for the kit and it’s removal tools maybe it wouldn’t have broke on it’s way out. Bit of liquid metal and it’ll be fine.

Could you estimate the amount of work (in hours) you have to do in order to remove the injectors from the engine and put them back in? If assuming the engine/car is fully operational before starting such operation.

How many miles/km did your injectors have before servicing them?

Did you replace the top feed filters?

Hi there,

I would estimate that you could easily turn this around in a day.

My car has 98k miles on it. I’ve only done this to mine as I was already in that dead. When I pulled the fuel rail off the injectors I wasn’t happy with the seals so I decided to change them.

The injector kits I got from Audi did not have the micro filters to replace so I left them be.

Could you describe more accurately the required steps for removing the parts from reaching the injectors? I have done this service to different DI cars but never to this specific engine type.

It’s pretty straight forward.

Throttle butterfly’s off
Inlet manifold off
Inlet flaps and fuel rails off

Apparently you don’t need to change the injector seals between taking them out and putting them back in. I did though, belt and braces and all that.

I would recommend buying the injector kit, I got mine on eBay for £36.
