Great to see you bringing your 'family' car back to life.
Whilst you've got the suspension off why not put a new set of DRC shocks on ? At this price you can't go wrong! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AUDI-RS6-C5- ... SwLPpd7~sp
Many have changed to coilovers ( which also fail eventually), but I've been very happy with DRC ( & Hotkiss ARB).

Yes, I saw those. Looks like a decent enough deal.

Accidentally bought. Accepted £ 300.

I've now spent the same in parts as I did buying the car.

Same here although I started from a higher base. It seems to be the story of many, whether up front or by increments.

So far the cost has been pretty much in accordance to expectations. On the basis of hope for the best, but plan for the worst, I had budgetted for suspension and brakes. Thankfully my time at the weekends is free and I'm lucky with access to workshop equipment and tools.

This weekends plan is to fit the new front dampers and springs and get the car on its wheels and mobile again, and then can prepare for the cam belt, water pump and thermostat change for when the loan tools arrive.

So you you should end up with a cheap, good, very low mileage example. Excellent result?

They're en-route back to him, and hopefully I'm next on the list.

Front dampers done and back on the car, so started to do the cambelt. So far bumper and undertrayoff, Coolant drained and air box off. New air filters fitted as well, so could tick something off my to-do list.

Some of the rubbers on the air ducting between bumper and intercoolers are perished and rotten, so will see if I have any sheet rubber in stock and cut replacements.

Moderate progress today. Auxiliary belt and cambelt off, thermostat and water pump replaced. All pulleys and tensioners replaced. Now at the stage of refitting timing belts.

Whilst I can’t work on it during working hours I will spend some time during the week cleaning fixings so reassembly will be quicker.

A long weekend coming up which I hope to complete most of the outstanding jobs.

- to finish installing the replacement cambelt and auxiliary belt, and to re-assemble the front end.
- to drain oil and refill with fresh oil and a new filter
- to fill new coolant
- to change spark plugs
- to change fuel filter.
- to refit front wheels, and lower to ground
- to change wiper arms to Allroad ones with fresh wiper blades.
