Audi A4 2.8 Quattro - performance upgrades
Audi A4 2.8 Quattro - performance upgrades
Hi
I am a bit of an imposter on this forum as I only recently purchased a 2000 model year A4 2.8 Quattro - ideally I was looking for a S4 Bi-Turbo but I could not find the right car and needed to get a everyday car after changing jobs and losing my company car (which for the last 4 years was an A4).
Anyway I am looking to gently modify it for a bit mor performance and grip and was thinking of the following upgrades:
1) Hi Flow panel Airfilter - poss K & N
2) Cat bypass pip (ideally a bolt on and off affair)
3) Engine Manegement chip upgrade
4) Something to be done with the susepension and Understeer
If anyone could point me in the right direction for the above I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Russell Mills

RE: Audi A4 2.8 Quattro - performance upgrades
Ive got some S4 suspension and anti roll bars if you want a cheap upgrade on suspension. I think it will fit ok........ Maybe someone with more knowledge will say otherwise. As for chip, don't know. Couldn't do anything to my old 2.6 80 quattro, so i got an S4!!
Cats on my old 80 were a bit of a pig to change easily. A good custom exhaust place should be able to make you something.
Hope this helps

Tomorrow is another day
As an interloper I reckon the Mods may move your post somewhere else but I hope you get the help you want.
Have you tried http://www.audi-sport.net/
I don't think chip tuning is a viable option for you as your car is naturally aspirated but I may be corrected. I would have thought traditional tuning tactics like cam changes and polished ports etc would be the order of the day.
I imagine the S4 suspension would fit the 2.8 OK. Have a good trawl on the this sight as the suspension thing has been done to death.
Interesting why you don't think the S4 is not a good daily runner?

I agree with Dazzer. I had a B5 2.6 quattro, and didnt bother modding anything, but knowing what I know now I probably would. I dont think the filter will do much for you either.
Personally, I would go for a full exhaust (downpipes, precats, & catback), engine remap (you'll get about 10-15bhp and a smoother power curve), and improve the suspension. That should give you around 25-30bhp (not the suspension of course!) - a reasonable improvement on the stock (180bhp?)
If it's a B5 A4, which it will be as a 2000 MY, then the S4 suspension and ARBs should fit - I also have a set if Mikeyquattro has already sold his. I also have an S4 front bumper, which won't improve the performance but will make it look really smart...!

not sure if this would work but i have all the parts from my 2.7 biturbo left over from rs4 upgrade, that is the stock turbo's and pipework diverter valves, intercoolers and pipework, inlet manifold required, downpipes cats and catback, airbox inlet y pipe and tract, you could make a biturbo out of your 2.8 afterall? comments?
Thanks Guys seems the best way will be the full sports exhaust and engine map. I don't need the ultimate performance car just a little bit more fun than standard and gains of 20 - 30BHP sounds pretty useful. As my comment about an everyday car I meant in the context that I have already own 2 vey rare Lotues and did not want to run these whilst looking for the right S4 to come along. The 2.8 quattro I am going for has a full Audi history and only 56,000 miles on the clock with all the options (Bose, ESP Leather etc) and all this for £7.5 K seemed too good to miss. The S4 would be a fantatstic every day car I just can find a good one in time.
Thanks and any ideas on suppliers for the aboev mentioned mods?
