kc - lol
On a more serious note - this is fact. I ran the RS6 for 40k miles, and the 911 for 20k miles so far. Everything is cheaper (which amazed me!).
Tyres - Fronts 130 each, Rears 170 each - they last as long as, if not longer than the RS and usually the rears wear at a ratio of 2:1 on the fronts, you basically get 25000 miles on fronts (if not a bit more)
Extended Warranty £725 per annum (although needed at 2 years to 3 as per Audi)
Servicing - interval is longer at 12000 miles, 12k Service is approx £300 (fixed cost, just haven't got the flyer to hand) 24 k service is £1000 (which is slightly heavier than Audi) The big service is at 48k miles and probably will be £1300. Plugs from Audi were something like £25 each (as I remember) on the 911 they are £5 each and only 6 required, but they take longer to fit. Brakes wear evenly and last very very well at approx 30-40k miles per set, pads wear out every 20k ish and discs are cheaper as they are more mass produced. Porsche will also re-surface the discs before they put a new set on (lots of metal)
Depreciation is quite solid now that my car has taken the initial hit - so for me a better buy as I bought an ex-dem with 8k miles on it.
Insurance is the same
Fuel consumption is measurably better
No Cam belt to change - ever.
Customer Service so far is many times better
Where is it worse - well, being a 911 you want it to be perfect at all times, I'm not saying the RS6 shouldn't get the same looking after, but you could pile in and out of the RS6 and not worry too much. Mine has a clutch, and I miss the Auto RS6 - there's something to be said for hoofing all the way to 190mph without breaking a sweat!! People spit at the 911 regularly, usually when it's parked up - more jealousness, I actually have no problems with people letting me out - infact for some bizarre reason it's better in the 911.
So this has slightly gone off thread - but I was just as amazed as you kc, and it is real, no bs!!
In summary cars are about how they make you feel, I loved my RS6 and now I love the 996TT, the 996 for us is a better car, we drove to Europe in it for our honeymoon and it was awesome, it is great at distance, speed, handling, fun, style, etc
Unfortunately you can't carry a fridge at the same time!!! I'd have another RS6 - but right now I'm just amazed at how reasonable porsche ownership has been. Service bills can be as bad, but everything else is much cheaper probably due to the volumes used and produced. For the first week of 996TT ownership I longed to have the RS6 back..... then I learned how to drive it and I'll never look back.
I have to say - try a Cayenne too - they are just amazing for the size, just how it goes around corners like that is beyond me.
In summary RS6 Bad idea? no - not at all, just read the small print!!
