upper pinch bolt-routine maintainance

Post by rs user » Mon Nov 30, 2020 1:45 pm

i replaced the upper pinch bolts on my present car over 3 years ago-when replacing them i used a fair amount of clear silicone type grease[as recommended to me by an engineer mate] they were absolutely solid when i replaced them the first time-took great time and effort plus one replacement upright to sort out

i bought the car back a few months ago from the gent i sold it to and it was one of the areas i revisited ,removed bolt[came out easy enough],replaced with new bolt all lubed up and retorqued-10 mins a side
despite the bolts being replaced with new last time and protected they were showing slight signs of binding and corrosion on the bolts so glad i re-did them, negligable cost and time, but i know if i have to do a top arm or indeed any work concerning the front upright it should be easy enough

would recommend anybody who has had the pinch bolt replaced more than a few years ago to visit this area and remove/replace for the small effort involved :beerchug:
