Which S4 4.2 (344bhp) or RS4 (380bhp)?

Post by g7jhp » Wed Jan 25, 2006 12:18 pm

Hi all I'm gone from an S3 to an old 911 Carrera but am now considering the new stage (family and all that) so an Avant is on the cards.

I loved the sure footed grip and turbo of the S3 so have been toying with the idea of getting an S4 or RS4.

Both seem to be around £22-30k depending on mileage and spec and although the S4 is a newer car is it better to go for an older RS4?

Could I always get a newer S4 and upgrade the bhp to RS4spec?

I'd imagine RS4 will be more £ to run and people will say it depends if like turbo or n/a power.

Any thought would be welcome.

You won't go wrong with either. I went from a 98 S4 Avant (B5) to an 03 one (B6) when they came out and the difference is immense. RS4 drivers take their cars very seriously and are a very loyal bunch but I prefer the newer S4 with good handling, strong performance, ISOFIX and next stage crash protection.

AMD do S4 upgrades but for me the increased performance with a N/A engine is not enough to get excited about. Anyway, coming from an S3 you will find the S4 very fast with it on a par with a 993.

Lets us know how you get on.
Maserati GranTurismo GTS Auto, S3 Sportback, TT2 3.2 Roadster, Disco3 for the heavy stuff.
