How much for an oil cooler kit..?

Post by tartan_rob » Tue Jan 24, 2006 9:36 am

For those without an oil cooler, how much would you guys be willing to pay for the complete Kit (oil cooler, take-off plate and all piping etc)?

I have put a kit on my car using an aftermarket race car cooler, VAG take-off plate and custom pipework...works a treat, will post pics if anyone interested..?

Sounds good Rob - my local garage was looking into developing one for me using a std oil cooler, take-off plate etc...

Personally, I think the RS4 cooler is way overpriced - I'd expect to pay around £300 max for the parts.

I could do the kit for £300, I'll try and get some pics of the kit fitted to the car.

Rob, I would certainly be interested in understanding fitment / costs etc.

I only track my car four or five times a year, but when I do, oil temp goes through the roof, (very worying), and I end up driving the car around for some considerable time to pull the temp back down again before cutting the engine.

Pics and info would be most useful.

At what stage of tune or use is an oil cooler recommended or beneficial?, how accurate is the oil temp gauge?
I'm asking from the perspective of someone who never tracks the car, is interested in sustained motorway speeds and engine longevity.

Thanks Nige, seem pricey to me.

Where do you put a square oil cooler with the side mounted intercoolers though ?

Good question.

Have a look at this thread, it explains the differences between oils and their recommended use http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=51576

Dave, I didn't mention a square oil cooler, I had a long thin one in kind that sat under the rad.

LOL. Easy for you to say :)

Yes, I know the RS4 one is a neat install under the water rad, I was wondering where the best place for a square oil cooler would be with the standard intercoolers in place, as per the original post, sorry.

I'm going to bear the cold and get some pics together today - both of the kit fitted and the kit in base form. You guys can make your mind up from that. I have fitted the cooler to the bottom left of car, in front of radiator. Pic will show it better.

Bear with me - it is fcukin cold today....

if you fit a FMIC then you can fit a nice big square oil cooler unit in the place that the N/S standard cooler was. this is my plan.........
