Wheel upgrade

Post by GilesProbert » Fri Jan 20, 2006 11:24 pm

I have a B5 S4 upgraded with B6 S4 18" alloys reasonable good on smooth surfaces, fairly bad on rough ones, and a complete handful when I have to pull into the slow lane to exit certain motorway junctions, (tramlines caused by lorries). Is it because I am running 235/40 18 tyres or is it the brand Continental Contact 2's. Please let me know before I go completely mad. :?

A thread about tyres on RS4's might help to prove you're not entirely mad :D

Havnt noticed my Kumhos tramlining (225/40*18), on stock wheels the car would tramline with Falkens but not badly. Never tried Contis on my S4, do generally like them though....they were my tire of choice when these wear out.

Giles, I have exactly the same wheels and tyres - I also experience the tramlining, although not as bad as you describe.

What tyres will you go for?

I can get very good prices on verdestien ultrac/sportrac tyres if your interested, although i used to get bad tramlining on my old *cough*bmw 328 sport (255/35 r18 rear 225/40 r 18 iirc on front). Its normal to get tramlining (especially when getting onto bottom lane on the motorway) with wider wheels. just get your moneys worth outta your tyres, contis arent great for an expensive tyre imo.For the money you could do a lot better....
