New brakes- Audi or aftermarket?

Post by Scammo1 » Mon Aug 24, 2020 2:13 pm

Soon will be time to replace front and rear discs and pads as my car is at 30k miles with the originals still.

Friendly Audi dealer said £2k for parts excluding fitting 😳

Do you guys think I should stick to Audi parts and pay what they asked or source aftermarket versions which are meant to be upgrades?

If aftermarket what do people recommend?

What about an indy that can fit Audi OEM parts?

I do have a good local garage who can certainly fit them.

It’s the £2k parts price from Audi which stings which is why I wondered whether people just pay it or fit aftermarket e.g Brembo or Tarox

So all together £2300 which is in line with what Audi told me.

My point really is at this price is it worth fitting Audi discs and pads or replace with aftermarket versions?

What have people done when they changed their discs?

Interested as mine are 95% worn according to Audi, although 85% by an indy 1500 miles later so I wouldn't totally believe a stealer!

There is not much choice for rear discs on the B8. reyland motorsport supply their own to replace the OEM but I’ve not found many reviews on how good they are. I’ve just committed to replacing my rears with OEM. There is a bit more choice for the fronts, EBC produce front discs for the B8, they seem to be well received. There are a few others, best to search the net. Price wise I don’t think there is much difference between OEM and aftermarket, they’re all ££££

I’ve used Reyland on my B7 and I can assure you they are superb quality. If they have them for my B8 they will be my first choice for sure.

Does anyone know the correct disc dimensions and thicknesses for the B8?

Hi,

I changed myself front & rear discs & pads with :
- oem discs found on eBay in Germany : 750€ front / 680€ rear
- front : ebc blue stuff ndx 240€ / rear : ebc yellow stuff 110€
- 2x motul rbf 600 for complete flush 2x11€
- Carista on iPhone to release rear caliper 44€ / 1 year

Total : 1850€ (1650£)

NB : even if blue stuff ndx are racing pads, it is r90 approved and doing little noise but not as common racing pads... the brake pedal feeling is good and will help to avoid discs wrapping....
For info, my previous 4 discs were wrapped (after 3000km) and I got them machined for 120€... I will use them next time

The fronts are 365mm and I think 34mm thick
Rear 330mm but not sure re thickness but know they need changing at 20mm

As I only bought the car a few weeks ago I spoke to the dealer who agreed to source me Audi rear discs and pads for just £400 so will stick to OEM.

Fronts are still way above the min thickness so will leave that until next year!!

Is that an Audi Dealer? Is this due to them selling you the car with knackered rear brakes?

If not does he fancy a group buy as I am sure there would be a few takers, me being 1!

It was from a reputable independent dealer who sourced the car for me. I didn’t notice the brakes until after I purchased it and they didn’t come up on the MOT the dealer did or the service they got Audi to do, but they want us to be 100% happy so agreed to provide all parts and pay half the cost.

Unfortunately I think this is a one off seeing as it’s costing them £400 as well!

Don’t quote me on this, but I think brembo are setting me back £204 each for the fronts (vs about £850 each for OEM’s). I’ll be putting a pair on next month.

I have no doubt the OEM’s are better. I’m not using my car on the track. I’m pretty sure the brembos will take my occasional 15 min playtime on a country road. I’ll probably go back OEM once lockdown is a distant memories.
