Soft limiter

Post by Densparker » Sat Jul 11, 2020 6:54 pm

I’m finally picking up my new car on Wednesday and was wondering as to how easy it was to remove the soft limiter.

I haven’t broached the subject with them as yet, but a bit of ‘in the know’ would be useful before doing so.

Is it simply a case of them turning something off with their laptop or Is it something more involved 🤔

I am no expert but I thought you needed a remap to get rid of it.

It is a rev limiter in neutral at something like 3000 or 4000 rpm. It stops you sitting there revving the nuts off it and annoying everyone. All new Audis seem to have it now as well as some other manufacturers.

I reckon a GPF’d turbo V6 would be fecking annoying bouncing off its limiter.

I have a GPF'd turbo V6 without a soft limiter. Doesn't sound great full stop, (can I write full stop then follow it with a comma?) although most other owners disagree with me. Never bounced it off the hard limiter whilst stationary though.

Mine is a pre FL B9 with no soft limiter and the sound is weak even at full revs. It’s the major minor point in the engine and in my opinion unacceptable in a performance car. When Alfa can make their 2.9 V6 sound so good, to me Audi need to up their game.
