New RS is not doing it for me... I am not overly keen on all the screens in the new C8, amongst other things, but guess that's personal choice.
Same thoughts here - C8 too shouty, too touchscreeny, has 63l tank and some editions have Adaptive Cruise as standard. So it is not for me. Although it sounded great in EVO group test.

It's a completely different beast, as you may know, but still gives me 5 seats, immense power and a few other luxuries too like massage seats, pan roof, 4WD & 4WS plus night vision, HUD and of course it flies under the radar of most people's attention which will be nice for a change.

Having been an Audi man for many years I am slightly apprehensive of a brand change but, from what I have experienced so far with it, that will be short lived :bigblink:
Excellent choice Scotty. That’s a peach.

Be interested to know your impressions Scotty and whether you got a deal. I've been thinking about an Alpina for some time now, almost tempted to go for the B3 Touring or look for a low mileage D3 and have a fun car alongside.

B5 was brand new when I was looking..... but the best deal I could get was discounted winter wheels/tyres!!

First impressions, after only a few days, are very good. You can naturally feel the added weight of the car at first but this has become less noticeable. The Xdrive system seems extremely competent too and it holds the road very well, in and out of the corners, considering its a lump. In a good way the power delivery is slightly different though, which is hard to explain, but it rockets away very happily and just keeps going and going and going like a missile. It's sound is more about the engine note and not the exhaust - audibly it is still very good just not as raw as the RS and less synthesised with more V8 tones. The tech seems about the same, although the NV, leather dashboard and blue dials make a nice change and I just like the fact that the interior feels so much more of a luxury place to be.

Refreshingly, before I collected the car, I had a coupe of technical questions so took to phoning Alpina directly in Germany where they answered my call efficiently, transferred me to the correct department and I had the answers I was looking for in under 5 mins over the phone and followed up by email thereafter without any fuss or drama. That kind of service is way beyond anything I experienced when calling Audi. I will update things once I've been across Europe in it, hopefully in the coming weeks, but for now it does still bring a very big smile to my face.

Three weeks ago I enquired about a new car and was offered only 5k off list price but the wait was about 8 months and fortunately I found one more within my budget which had been hardly used, since new in July 19, however with no great deal to be had at the time, Gary Lott, the Alpina Brand Manager at Sytner, was extremely helpful, whilst bothering him with various questions and despite knowing I was buying a car elsewhere.

Thanks, looking forward to hearing more about the car. I met Gary a few years ago and he's a good bloke, Alpina is a very small community and I think the customer service reflects that. I think the B5 (as the C8) is probably too big for my needs now but the B3 appeals, I like the balance between comfort and performance and the discrete looks.

0-60 is around 3.6s for the Touring and top speed is 200mph. Fuel economy is not terrible either and I am getting around 21 mpg with a mixture of driving. You don't feel the power quite the same as the RS though, which can be quite dangerous, only realising when you glance at the HUD and it is reading almost twice the national speed limit !!

Sold the car last week to these guys - very easy to deal with and makes a change from the usual dealers. https://www.mpowercars.co.uk - they are also looking for stock so if anyone is looking to bail, give them a shout. Speak to Josh, one of the owners. Took £51k for mine.

Question on next daily sh1tter - what do we all think over the next couple of months on the discounts being available - have managed to get £7k so far on a 6, but looking at the £10-£11k on the 7's I'm wondering whether things improve discount wise as we head towards September......? If I was to order now, I've been told Oct delivery with individual paint. I know there's no crystal ball, but I've never felt so uneasy / unsure about buying a new car given the current times....

£100k Budget Decision

Post by doodlebug » Tue Jun 23, 2020 8:37 am

Right now cars are shifting. And to me that’s completely counterintuitive. We’re still mainlining the QE and government schemes. The music starts to stop next month. Job losses are coming once furloughs unwind. That’s when we’ll know. I would like to get into something, but it’s a real heart vs head battle. Head says sit out, prices can only head one way in the next quarter. If you don’t need a car I’d wait. You’ll be waiting six months plus for a factory order of anything.

They usually carry 60+cars and have only 38 in stock. I would imagine they would buy in Europe too 07922 427178 - Josh - no harm in giving them a bell and asking. Very friendly peeps.
