Roof bars and Pano

Post by crapbag » Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:55 pm

Hi all,

Has anyone got any experience with using Thule Edge bars and the panoramic roof? What I’d like to know, is there clearance between the Edge bars and the roof to be opened?

If not is is there clearance between a std foot pack and Wing bars.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Craig.

Hey,

Thanks for the pic and info. Could I trouble you for useable space. I’ve seen the info on Thule but there is usually a bit of a difference in real life. I’m hoping that I can fit my Atlantis 780 and 3 proride 598’s with MTB’s attached.

If they don’t all fit on then I know they’ll fit on a normal set of wing bars. I managed to get the roof box and 1 proride on top of a R60 countryman. So fingers crossed. The the Edge bars look so much cleaner.

Photo with bikes on the roof, 3 road bikes. Not sure how 3 MTB’s would be with the handlebars.

Cool man. Thank you.

I can see that I won’t get all 4 bits of kit on it. For ref though. To get 3 MTB’S on you just mount one rack (the middle one) backwards.

Looks like conventional bars are my only option. Shame that with DRC no one in the uk seems to have made a solution for fitting a towbar.

Thanks again,

Craig.

Hey Wattsm,

You able to share the Thule model numbers for the racks and the bike mounts? Finally getting bikes for my wife and I as the kids can ride safely. Prior car was Full fat RR so never had need for roof mounts due to ridiculous boot size.

Cheers!

Then you want Thule bike carriers, either pro-ride 598 or fork mounted outride 561. The outer two on mine are pro-ride (older model) and the middle is fork mounted as pro-ride won’t clamp round that bike frame.

I am also thinking about such setup (firstly to put 3 bikes later maybe 4) any recommendations?

I’ve ran bike racks for years (an avid MTBer and leader) and I can’t recommend Thule highly enough! Even when going through the highlands with 2 30+ Lbs bikes on the roof going at an “enthusiastic” pace they hold solid and with some protection tape on the frames not a mark has ever been left.

The 598 is a worthy upgrade on the 591 adding torque limiter to the frame clamp and a handy “prong” to the frame clamp. Meaning large diameter non round frames can’t slip out.

I really can’t fault any of their kit at all.

I also have the aero wing bars and roof.
Opens and closes fine but I opened it once with my roof box on and it wouldn’t close. Doesn’t touch but must be sensors.
Had to take the box off so I could close it again. Luckily it wasn’t fully loaded at the time!

Awesome thanks for the info dude. Much appreciated. As a side note. Your car looks good with the bars on!

Cheers! I thought when I got them I’d be taking them on and off when needed but I’ve just left them on. Suit the Car well
