That makes a lot of sense considering my wiring has been butchered. I’m praying for good news and hopefully not another huge bill 🤦‍♂️

Thanks again for the advice

Also regarding your original issue with the MAF wiring, my bet is the plug had crumbled (they will be doing that at this age) and for some reason they didn't just replace the plug. I've switched both of mine as they take a bit of abuse when taking the airbox on and off.

It’s been in the garage all day today. I haven’t heard from them as of yet. I’ll give them a call tomorrow I don’t like to rush them. I did mention when I dropped it iff about all the poor wiring and the maf sensors. Hopefully I’ll know my tomorrow and of course I’ll keep the post updated.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know how much a replacement gearbox or a full rebuild is including labour.

between 2k and 10k depending on where you get it done. Obvs the 10k end is Audi.

Obviously I’d like the 2k then lol.

I rang the garage they have still not found the exact cause. But they have said there is definitely a fault in the gearbox. I’m waiting on more information from them hopefully later today. I’m just thinking the worse case scenario and expecting the big bill. Where are these places for under 3k Do you know ?

Have a look in the FAQ. There's some info in there.

It would be nice to have some proper VAG fault codes. You should get a Vagcom. It's the first tool any RS owner should buy!

I’ve had the dreaded news it’s the gearbox. It’s burnt out and buggered parts inside. I’ve been quoted £4,600 for a full recon, but i still have the abs issue so looking over 5k total. Is there any recommendations for any places cheaper. I’ve tried Looking in the FAQs but couldn’t find anything.

Thanks

If you use a cheaper place is there any guarantee the work will last? Better to pay a bit more and have it done correctly and also have a proper decent warranty with it.

Also make sure you can pay with a credit card then you have extra protection as well.

Thanks all I’m going to be doing some shopping around. I don’t mind paying 4,600 but it’s always best to get other quotes.

They said a lot of things inside the gearbox have failed, I can’t remember exactly but when i pick it up on Tuesday i will get a list of everything and post it here.

At least get a cheapo Vagcom cable and shareware version of VCDS off ebay so we can see the *actual* VAG error codes. So much misdiagnosing happens with these cars by "professionals". Use the community to evaluate for yourself.
