Traffic Sign Recognition
Traffic Sign Recognition
Does anybody know if UK Audi dealers are able to retrofit Traffic Sign Assist?
I have all the prerequisite options (active cruise, lane keeping etc.) to make the upgrade a software / configuration upgrade only.
I’d want to keep my Audi warranty in tact, so not yet ready to use the superb Hazzydayz and other OEM retrofitters.

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
From my experience they won't retrofit anything.

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
I got the traffic sign recognition retro fitted to my RS4 at Aberdeen Audi so it might depend on the dealership

Tell me more :0)
How did the job come about? Did you simply ask and they said yes, was it an option you ordered which they forgot to submit? How much did it cost? Did they do it in on the quiet? Sorry for the questions and all answers appreciated!

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
It was on the options list but not spec'ed on my car i bought it 2nd hand
I looked into after market options that could be uploaded but seemed a faff and Audi wasn't much more expensive and if they update the software it will still be there as a after market i would have to re install it
About £350 from memory
I just went in and asked the parts department if it could be done on my car the confirmed it could
And it was booked in and done in half an hour

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
It can be coded in if you have the cameras for lane departure etc. I tried on my C7.5 but there’s a security code which is different and unknown from the C7 procedure.
It only ever works on signs that are 10mph. Weird. If someone knows the security code used then it may be worth another try.

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
I heard it didn't work very well so never bothered with it. The standard sat nav reported the road speed limit very well for all roads other than where temporary speed restrictions were on for roadworks and they have huge great signed every 5 metres.
Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
Sounds reassuring - even if I have to go to Aberdeen to get it done!Brooner wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 7:50 pmIt was on the options list but not spec'ed on my car i bought it 2nd hand

Mind you, Going up there, the cost of the upgrade would be c£350 plus the cost of the fuel plus overnight hotel which would be c£400 + c£100 meaning the total upgrade would be £850.
It feels like I need a friendly, proactive Audi dealer in London - anybody know of one?

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
In fairness the logic of there being a sign applies at all times whether there are roadworks or not.
I find the standard sat nav speed signs woefully out of date; I live in London and in the last couple of years my and other boroughs have reduced speed limits to 20mph which don’t feature on my sat nav. I am cautious about updating the sat nav maps as I never understand the lag on the accuracy of the data.
I.e., maps sold as 2020/2021, have maps that are accurate as at 2018 / 2019 which in turn rely on information supplied by local councils the year before.
You make a fair point about accuracy, my car before the RS6 had traffic sign recognition and it was mostly accurate, however the combo of the sat nav data plus sign recognition (use the lower speed of the two!) gave me a good overall accuracy.
I found it particularly useful in Europe where I may not always understand the signs. The best use was on the Autobahn where it was able to inform me when we were in / out of an unrestricted zone!!! :0)

I need this... recently returned from a trip abroad and received an Autobahn fine in the post from the Germans for speeding in a restricted zone in Munster - fortunately it was only 30 Euros unlike the fine i also received from the Dutch, on the same day, which was 160 Euros !! Guess I have two choices... 1.Get this retro fitted or 2. Pay more attention...

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
Ah fair point about London where a lot of limits have changed recently. I don't live in London anymore and although I still go to London every day (well I did before this virus appeared) I rarely drive in London now. Around my way the signs were all in line with my map. I also noticed how accurately they changed; the moment I passed a sign about change of speed the MMI would update instantly.sasha320 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 8:05 amIn fairness the logic of there being a sign applies at all times whether there are roadworks or not.

And where I've had cars that had the speed sign recognition I found it caused me more grief than not having it; the problem is that you rely on the dash telling you the speed limit and it doesn't take long before you stop noticing the road side signs especially on the intelligent sections of the motorway; I found that the dash was wrong where it has missed one of the constantly changing speed limits and I hadn't been paying the much attention so had no idea what the actual speed limits was. I prefer to just stick to not relying on it and using my eyes.
Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
I had it on my S7 and it worked really well. Tried to code it on my RS7 and I figured as it had active lane assist/radar cruise it would work but no, couldn’t make it work.
Will have another go now OBDeleven have released long coding on IOS but I think there is something missing from the car, a module or something.

Re: Traffic Sign Recognition
I believe the camera needs some sort of calibration sounded like a faff that's why i got Audi to do it
I would have thought the likes of Hazzydays would do the retro fit
