New Member Saying Hello..

Post by kam100 » Fri Jan 13, 2006 6:17 pm

Hi Guys, great forum you have here..
Was just referred across from www.rrsport.co.uk

Am thinking of purchasing an 05 S4 Saloon (facelift) Tiptronic.
This will be the first Audi i have ever owned, as well as the fastest car i have ever owned, can't wait to be honest.

The RRS i am driving now is fantastic, a little slow, but these cars aren't about speed, they are waft mobiles! Is a difficult thing saying bye to the range rover sport and i am really wondering whether its such a good thing buying the S4.

What kind of real life urban MPG figures do you guys get out of your 4.2 litres? I am achieving between 17-20mpg around town in my RRS as it weighs 2.5Tonnes, so am hoping the S4 won't cost too much more to run a week. I will be driving approx 150 miles a week all town driving, home-work and out in the evenings, every now and then i may take it on short hops on the motorway but we have a saab 9-3 tdi which we use for longer trips (my sisters car).

I am hopefully getting a dealer allocated RS4 in June (ish) so am trying to agree a price for buy back for the S4 at that time.

The car im buying is a phantom black tiptronic 05 plate with every extra.
Priced at £38k now, im hoping to get £34-35k back for it at that time, am i being realistic, or am i being a complete dumb a**?

Appreciate all your views, thanks in advance.

Welcome.

You get similar mpg. I average 18 but it's easy to get 13-14 in town with a cold engine and short trip. Pushing hard you can get down to similar numbers quite easily. On a motorway trip you can get 25-27mpg.

I can't comment on prices as I've not looked since getting mine a couple of years ago.

Good luck with the deal negotiations.

Sorry, another quick question:
Whats the service intervals like on this model S4, and whats the costs involved normally?
I am used to the Bmw service schedules and fortunately don't have to service my Range Rover Sport till 20k miles, so will escape that one.. just looking at all the cons of S4 ownership before committing to the deal.

Service interval if you're predominantly town driving probably around 17 - 18k, service cost (assuming nothing else is wrong) around £300 main dealer.

As Pete.S says the service will probably be around 17/18k miles but it depends how you drive it as they have variable servicing. It hasn't been much more expensive than my old TT which was the same costs as a normal Golf. The only real larger cost is the fact it takes 9L of Mobil1 for an oil change.

Cool, thanks very much.. thats fine for me i think. Won't be thrashing the hell out of it or anything so should be good. Think i am going to go for this deal.

Trading my RRS in now for the S4 and they have given me a guaranteed buy back price of £32k in June when the RS4 lands. Im going to push this up to £33k and then move immediately if they say yes. (should do, i should think this S4 will be good for retail at £34995 when it hits the forecourt, and £2k margin should be more then enough.
Have worked out a deal before with bmw where they have made a margin of £1500 and still been happy!

They are obviously under-bidding on the RRS for now or are prepared to give some RS4 margin up to get a three car deal. A one year old S4 saloon with tip and sat nav would book at about £29k so they are doing you a good deal. All B6/B7 S4's are great so...enjoy.

PS Retail on your car in June would be c£31,995.

PPS A fully loaded tip S4 saloon can be bought for c£40k new if you shop around.

Damn.. i have been thining about this deal all night and all this morning, and i don't know whether to take it or now.

£37999 down to £32000 in 6 months seems rather steep to me, a Year wouldn't be soo bad, but 6 months!
My previous cars:

318Ci lost 6 k in one year (22k-16k)
330d lost 6k in two years! (27k-21k)
325ci Cab lost £4k in 8 months. (27k-23k)
RRS has lost £2500 in 6 months. (44.5k-42k)

So loosing £6k in 6 months would be the worst hit to date.
Plus a lot more to insure the S4 (approx double). Am thinking maybe i should turn down the S4 now and just go for the RS4 for June if thats viable. Or i don't know if that deal is dependant on the S4 purchase.
Have till tommorow to decide.

The sales guy said to me: The S4 will depreciate about £500 a month, plus we have our margin to think about.
Meaning the true worth of the car will be £35500 so probably retail for £34,995 and they are giving me £32k, so a £3k margin. Doubt they are discounting the RS4, although it is their dealer allocated demo? so do they get them cheaper at all?

They are making a margin on the S4 now, the RRS is being brought off them by a broker who will sell direct to his customer, so doubt Audi are giving me a subsidy on that price,
Then in june they will make margin on the RS4 and on the S4 when they sell it on.

Don't care what the S4 will retail for.. have asked them to find me £1500 extra out of this deal or im walking away.
either discount the high priced S4 now, or give me more for the S4 come buy back time, or discount the RS4 when i pick that up, either way, thought it was good for a counter offer, even if they agree at £1k more, im still better off.. lets see what they say!

They came back with £1000 discount on the S4, but i said no.
Going for the real deal, have placed my order for the RS4, ordered 2, for June delivery, one for me and one for my brother in law.
Can't wait, although now looking to find a way of financing the new beast economically.

For MPG there are already a few threads for the 4.2 344hp engine, eg try:

http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... c&start=30

whatever, it just HAS to be better MPG than a RRS doesnt it ????!!!!!
