Tyre Advice

Hi all,
So after 3 punctures since I bought the car in October I now need to change another tyre due to wear. (wife needs 2 more tyres and son got a puncture two weeks ago)
I have Pilot SS on the fronts and still have the Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's on the rear from when I bought it. It is one of the rear's that needs changing so my question is - Do I stick another Dunlop on the rear to match the axle or put another PSS on? The final Dunlop has 4.5mm tread left. I absolutely hate the Dunlop's as the grip is shocking but I obviously don't want to mix axles.

Thoughts please??

If i were you, I'd stick two new Piot SS's on the rear so that you have matching tyres all round & keep the Dunlop that has 4.5mm tread left as an emergency spare?

My thoughts: ditch the odd Dunlop (or keep as an emergency spare), switch the Mich PSS to the rear (keep on same side), and get two new Mich PS4S (not PSS) on the front.

That way you end up with the best tyres on the front, and in time will be able to get to four PS4S all round, which are, IMHO, the best tyres for these cars.

Cheers Rob, was thinking that but having shelled out almost £1k on my tyres, £500.00 on my wife & son's, £600.00 on warranty, £1200.00 on a new wheel, £120.00 on geometry I'm not in the mood for spending anymore than I have to at the moment. Never had a puncture in my life until now.

My last first were Dunlops on my PE and I have to say I thought the grip was pretty good, they also lasted extremely well. I went for Michelins when the time came to change and don't regret it, they are noticeably better and worth the extra. I would talk to a tyre specialist if you are going to mix, had bad results when I did this a few years ago on an RS4 and ended up changing the lot.

The Michelins are a great tyre but much noisier than OE on poor surfaces like the M25. I am now in a B9 RS4 and the Conti 6 silents are a great tyre too - and very quiet if NVH bothers you.
