Decisions - and Sepang Stolen more - or just more common anyway?

Post by Edmond » Tue Feb 18, 2020 12:14 am

Hi All,

Had a deposit on a dark blue 16 plate - and then the promised "deal" didn't materialise so I pulled my deposit.

3 cars in play - 2015 65 in Sepang, DRC, Pan roof, 1 owner - 2015 15, Floret DRC, Pan roof - 3 owners but stealthy - and a 66 plate 1 owner in Prism, comfort seats with DRC but NO pan roof. All are mid to late 30's mileage, all other options broadly the same - sports exhaust etc etc.

All are priced about the same.

Decision time - is Sepang much more likely to be nicked? Or do I just read about it more because it’s a common colour?!

It'd certainly stand out more - any car I choose will have Vodafone Protect 5, Ghost and a Stoplock Pro and my house has hardcore locks, anti snap barrels - front door has london and birmingham bars and multiple locks and house is alarmed..

And what's more valuable a newer car (66 vs 65/15) or having the pan roof come resale time? I also assume the silvers are harder to shift vs a sepang..

Help please! I'm literally not sleeping with fear that I'll buy the wrong one - or it'll turn out to be the right one but will be nicked, as have various RS4/6/s in the general area I live.

Hi Edmond,
All a question of your own taste I suppose. Are any of them the Performance model or all standard? Dynamic Pack or not?? Personally I'm not overly keen on Sepang but they always look good in the flesh and people see the silvers as dull. I loved my Silver S3 and S4 Avant as they really showed off the curves and didn't really show water marks so quite easy to keep clean (until we have weather like this). There are always a lot of Sepang's for sale so not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Not a fan of the comfort seats and I would actually die without the Pan roof so for me the Prism one would be out of the running despite being newer. If I wasn't comfortable sitting in the cabin in the first place I wouldn't buy it, regardless of age. That's where you're spending your time so it has to be right. Things I would have liked but were not vital are HUD and heated rear seats.
I had someone try to steal my C43 off of my drive a month before I bought the PE but I don't regret the decision one bit. If it get's stolen then it gets stolen. Get good GAP insurance.

Go and see them all if you can and take them for a good test drive and see what's important to you.

Can you post the links to them on here so we can have a butchers??

Good luck mate.
PS: Only my opinion

Thanks Shaney,

They’re all dynamic and non performance cars.

If I could convince myself the sepang wouldn’t have “nick me”’written on it I’d 90% take that one.

Links below. Already knocked money off them all to the same price. Two of them aren’t real photos though.

I don't think the colour will affect stealablilty. Sepang does outweigh silver in numbers sold by quite a lot so probsbly just appears to be more popular when looking at stolen cars.

Agreed Mike, when using as a getaway car I doubt they're too fussy about the colour.

Hi Edmond,

Like others have said, I too am not overly keen on Sepang and it does seem a lot more common than Silver.

For me, when I was looking I really wanted Silver, but there were none at all for sale with DRC (which was top of my option list).... Yes it does look more 'stealth' but I guess it depends what you want as for sure on the road it still looks like an RS and not a boggo A6!! But like Mike says there were a lot less Silver built, I think this will make a silver more desirabe at resale??!!

The Pan Roof is a funny one, I spoke to a couple of dealers and they told me they would not buy in a car without one.... but for me (depending on how long you plan to keep the car), it could be something that could go wrong and there have already been cases on here of them leaking and requiring a new 'cassette' which doesnt come cheap - so if its going to be a longer term keeper then maybe one without Pan would be fine??!!

If you have them all at the same price, then it might be worth putting them all in 'webuyanycar' and seeing which comes out tops. I think the newer car will come out tops.

I would go silver - I prefer the wheel colour on the 66 plate to the 15 plate, but I 'think' I prefer the carbon interior on the 15 to the 66 (but I dont think I have seen one in the flesh with the black interior). I also think the comfort seats might put people off when you resell... So in view of that I would go with the 15 plate but yeah, looks wise its probably as low key as they come.. In a good way of course

Have you only considered ones from Audi main dealers? Its worth considering specialist dealers as you can always buy an Audi warranty (this is what I ended up doing)..

Hope this is of some help?....

Carbon looks lush with the black interior.

What is your preferred colour Edmond and your top options?! If you wait, the right car will come along.. (it just sounds like you are compromising in some way, with the 3 you have listed)...??!!

This looks nice (if you like Daytona) with the black pack BUT looks like it will have air sus as no mention of DRC... But it also doesnt mention Sports Exhaust and those tips look black to me??!!

The dark blue (is it Estoril) does look great too...

On paper the Sepang is the best car IMO. Photos don't do that particular car justice. Sepang looks really good in the flesh.

However, there is no substitute for checking a car over and giving a test drive to give confidence that there are no hidden issues...

Hi All,

Thanks for the guidance/support.

The sepang car ticked all my boxes - just a weird existential fear about the colour.

I've test driven both a performance without DRC and a standard with - and also test drove an S6 Avant in Sepang so have seen the colour in the flesh and really liked it.

So - have put down a deposit and picking up the Sepang car on Friday or Saturday. 1 "elderly" doctor owner - if it sniffed it got brought in the dealer - brakes are basically brand new and it has the top camera and pan roof so wife will be happy.

Managed to get second year warranty super cheap and a Ghost fitted for free so nice bonus there helped seal the deal.

Cheers!

Good luck - I loved my Sepang and do understand the concerns over the theft side, but I honestly dont think it matters what colour you have, as if someone wants it its generally for how fast it goes and the loot they can carry, not the colour. I debadged my replacement and have fitted plenty of security, so ive done what I can. I went Glacier white in the end as I wanted a little more under the radar which I felt the white gave.....enjoy yours as i'm sure you will. I dont have the pan roof, and i'd like that, along with adaptive cruise, as I had both before, but I like the ceramics so its a trade off!!

Yep - very excited. Got the video sent today of the ghost being fitted. I'm a total car geek and had never heard of it - more fool me.

Shaney - yes - my wife was obsessed with the 360 cameras on our Range Rover (now in a crate on the way to or already in the balkans most likely) so it will go a long way to mollifying the "why don't we just have another RR" discussions I've been having to face down daily..

On the other hand my 6 year old is currently bouncing round the house repeating that he's going to tell his mates we have a car that can outrun a lambo so he's happy..
