B7 Vs StageIII B5
B7 Vs StageIII B5

RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

...depends on what you want from your car.
A GT3 or other track based road car is not going to be as good a car to drive around daily in. If you can live with that, you'll get a lot of enjoyment from a more 'driver focused' car. The compromise is yours to make...
New RS4 vs old RS4....tough one...I think I agree it will probably feel slower than your Stg 3 B5....but then so will a GT3 in normal road driving. A Stg 3 B5 is a pretty awesome thing in quickest from A-B terms.
.... I think people may be tempted to change from the B5 to the B7 simply because of the 'human greed' syndrome....ie. the 'must have' the newest/bestest/greatest' thing available. It's potentially a lot of money to change for the difference IMO, but then are you planning on keeping the B5 forever?

I'm not looking for a daily driver as such, I use a car about once a week but having said that I want to know that I could use it to pop to a bridge evening or KFC if needed. It also needs to be something the wife could drive, in the sense that on a febuary night in the rain I'd want to use her car to go to Sainsbury's, so it's only fair she should have the option at least to take mine if she ever fancied it. (Unlikely, but there you go)DaveP wrote:...depends on what you want from your car.

True... for me it's that 'new car' thing. The B5 is 5 years old now, I must admit I do love the idea of it being mine from brand new plus all the obvious joys of having a new motor.
Alas no it will have to go in the near future depending on delivery of the new car. And or premium bond/eccentric millionaire pay-outDaveP wrote: It's potentially a lot of money to change for the difference IMO, but then are you planning on keeping the B5 forever?

Hrm...I'd say a gt3 isn't really for you then... unless your wife has a passion for driving too, which I'm guessing isn't the case. No traction control, not much room for the shopping.
I know this may seem like a biased opinion now...but have you thought of a CSL ? - Still has traction control, can be fully automatic for the missus - and can even have Park Distance Control in case she needs to go to sainsbury's!
....and for when the need arises, it'll happily thrash around the track at a pretty amazing pace too (probably quicker than a gt3 unless there's a really good wheelman behind the Porsche).
I know it's a 3 series...but hey...don't judge it too quickly!

My wife won't drive mine Dave (not a bad thing) as she is intimidated by the gearbox. 1st has been selected rather than 3rd on more than one occassion which I was a bit vocal about when she did it
This was one of the reasons that allowed me to order a new RS, so has actually done me a favour in the end
Lets have a nice dry day again to give it another good blast because it really is a great car and much more practical than a GT3.
Cheers
Ben

Why's that? Have you never seen a "good wheelman behing the Porsche"?johneroberts wrote:....and for when the need arises, it'll happily thrash around the track at a pretty amazing pace too (probably quicker than a gt3 unless there's a really good wheelman behind the Porsche).

Umm...not going to get into it here...but I don't think it's bollox...supposedly an easier car to get the most out of due to the balance, unless there's a good driver behind the wheel of the Porsche who can use the weight transfer properly.johneroberts wrote:....and for when the need arises, it'll happily thrash around the track at a pretty amazing pace too (probably quicker than a gt3 unless there's a really good wheelman behind the Porsche).

...been discussed lots...probably not the best place to go through it again...
I'm not saying the CSL is faster, but in the hands of average drivers (and that's really all we are if we're honest) it is just as quick because its easier to exploit..
Decent post here about it...
