I've noticed similar behaviour on my RS6 (2016) with factory fitted ceramics. It has been really quite scary. This has happened on a number of occasions in really wet weather on a short 9 mile commute home. The journey rarely need brakes applied until the end of the journey when coming off of the dual carriage way A road. I've experienced the same on a longer journey as well on the motorway with little brake use and even a couple of times during the same trip.

Car is completely unmodified, I have VCDS and no errors relating to brakes appear with a check.

I now tend to test brakes slightly when wet but if an emergency situation was to occur I am concerned the brakes wouldn't be there.

I had read about the disc drying function previously which I thought was there to stop this issue.

What is the consensus amongst lt other carbon ceramic RS6 owners? Is this normal with very cold brakes in very wet weather?

Maybe I need to drive more aggressively and be in the brakes more often!?

Hi Nick,

I too have ceramics, and yes this is normal! The problem is that on longer runs, especially on the motorway, the discs are cold, and the pads damp, so nothing happens!

I have taken to occasional but regular left foot braking when it's safe to do so just to get some heat in and dry things off.

Having said that, if you really stamp on them when cold/wet, there is a "feature" that increases the braking, and after a split second will basically throw you through the windscreen - OK for the driver, but very alarming for passengers.

After a couple of years I now love my ceramics, but you do need to be aware of their features in the wet :kissmyrings:

Thanks for the info. If I know it is a "feature" then I can manage that. Thinking there is a fault puts doubts in your mind but knowing it is normal is a relief. I suspect it is probably a lot down to the size of the discs more so than them being ceramics?

This is what Audi UK say is causing such a weird and unpleasant experience... and it's not just a ceramic brake issue as i have standard steels.The problem is that the system is floored and prone to malfunction. This then becomes extremely dangerous and quite terrifying but sadly not enough complaints mean it has not been taken seriously or investigated further. You can actually trick the car in to behaving normally in these conditions by operating the wipers manually every few seconds - it's an absolute joke.

Mine is a 2014 model, so I presume I don't have this - just the underlying wet cold disc problem.

I can live with it :-)

Makes sense to me, I have a 2017 model with ceramics and have noticed no issue in the wet.

What I experience typically happens on water logged motorways with lots of surface water and poor drainage, I know it sounds crazy but when passing HGV's, the spray from them directly into the wheels seems to be a huge contributing factor in causing this to happen, I have driven in the rain many times on motorways that are well drained and not had a problem. Maybe I'm starting to go nuts... who knows !!
