LS56 TZB Grey RS4 Avant *CAT D* anyone know it?

Post by Toady1 » Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:53 am

Hi, I'm after a bit of history on the above car, a 56 plate B7 RS4 Avant in Daytona grey. Its on the autotrader at the moment. Stating a cat D due to the seats being stolen once before. MOT history check doesn't work and plate comes up as a blue Audi registered in 2015, So I think the plate may have move on since the pictures were taken.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/ ... ANT&page=2

I'd like to know more on its condition as the pictures are not too good, and also exactly why its a cat D and if it required bodywork repairs. Was it stolen and recovered?

Also an owner for some reason has removed the Audi badge and stuck an MRC badge on the back. It looks like it may also have a Miltek but this isn't listed in the advert.

Its reg in the advert is G1 RDW. The car is now on plate LS56 TZB.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

the mot history shows now-it takes a little time after plate transfer
intresting low[very] miles then 20k lumped on in last year-would be worthwhile checking consumables have plenty life left in them
cat d though-would want it cheaper than the asking, would rather have 100k hpi clear than a 50k recorded car

If its a CAT D due to the seats being stolen I don't mind, but I'm trying to confirm this with someone that may know the car, as it could just be the reason the dealer states!!!!

Mines at cat d due to seats being stolen.
I've previously asked a friend in the trade to hpi it and it doesn't show as stolen. So, going from that, a hpi will tell you if the cat d was due to it being stolen, damaged then recovered.
I don't think it will tell you if it's just been damaged by its owner though.

Hi Mike, no the HPI report will only tell you its status on vcar, it doesn't go into the details of why unfortunately. This would be nice! The seller says its due to the seats being stolen, but he has no proof on this, and has also said that he can tell its had some bodywork smart repairs before (though he says they're good repairs), but that makes me suspicious! It may not have been stolen and had the interior nicked, but it could have been in a crash resulting in it being a cat D. Seats stolen, I don't mind, but bodywork damage resulting in it being written off would put me off.

Yep, sorry my post was as clear as mud.
I thought if it had been stolen it would show on the hpi. And if not it wouldn't. With regards to the damage/seat theft, it wouldn't show..
My understanding is that there's a stolen flag in the hpi.
I could be wrong tho...

If it is near you maybe have a look - if it is the seats then I would expect there will be some minor damage to the interior and I would also expect to see some sort of attempt to secure the new ones ? It also has a headlamp alignment error (I think) showing on the DIS and the worn out drivers mat would also worry me.

Possibly it was Cat D for the seats and was cherished but has since been run hard for a year (the 20k) and sold on - the worn out logo mat suggests the driver fell out of love with the car at some point or its subsequent keeper didn't care.

Some info on the car here:

https://cazana.com/uk/car/LS56TZB

G1 reg now on an RS3. Not sure you can read much into the MOT history other than owner before last has scrimped on tyres which could imply it's not been maintained well. Last owner did 30k miles in two years

Thanks for the replies. I drove 250 miles round trip today to swap it with my car, and it was a total waste of my time. Front end inc both wings had been resprayed, badly, the front bumper was a resprayed blue one. I think the roof was the only panel that had original paint. All brakes were shot, even felt like a drum braked mini! Hesitation at about 5k then flat after. Sport button didn't change anything either. Flaps on exhaust didn't work, and play in the of upper wishbone. I'm glad I walked away from this one!

Hi, I’m sorry to bring this thread back up, but I was wondering if anyone knew what happened to this car?

I’ve just been looking at buying it, well I’m about to go and see it on the weekend. Long story cut short but......

Basically I live on the Isle of Man, hence not just jumping into my car and going to see it straight away. I’ve been looking for one for quite a long time now, earlier this year I came over to look at another car d 45k and the politest way to put it was it wasn’t as described, I had to walk away, at a reasonable cost to myself.

I came across this one last week and I’ve had a reasonable amount of correspondence with the guy, he is obviously into his cars and he’s taken the time to do a video of the car and send it to me, I explained what happens with the last car I went to look at etc, the story is the same ie he was told about the seat, but said himself he thought it had had work done on the front end.

Obviously I’ve only seen a video of the car, all the panel gaps look ok, he seams genuine and honest enough, and he has said he thinks the paint is perfect, he’s put new brakes all round and had a de coke done, possibly thinks the suspension needs work, but coming across this thread has made me very anxious. The car is completely standard too

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Andy

Yer it was modded with a capristo exhaust last year when (I guess) the current owner tried selling it, he then removed that to sell separately and put the seized oem one back on. I don't think the paintwork was good. The bumper was blue underneath. It had possible had the seats stolen as there was damage to the trim inside too, and the window trims on the outside were scratched and dented. It looks like its been done up to a better state than when I looked at it, but it had definitely had a front ender, and the paint on the wings had some runs. NOT good at all imo. I drove about 300 miles round trip to see it and drove away!

Post up the link to the advert.

Hi

Thank you for the reply. I can’t post the link as it was on eBay and the ad has ended.

I’m now wondering If I should bother going to see it, the guy showed me where he thought someone had tried to break into the car. He said the paint was perfect as it had only been done around 15k ago. So he is saying it’s been painted. I’m sure he said he had had the carbon clean and brakes all done 7k ago.

Ah yes I saw it on eBay actually, so it was that car then just as I thought. It's not worth £12k that's for sure. When I went to see it it was neglected. The dealer was also a typical dealer, a prick!

If you're traveling far then I wouldn't bother if I were you. It can't have been improved much, and the paint was far from good. I walked away feeling like I'd dodged a bullet.

Thanks and yes a plane and two trains unfortunately. From speaking to the guy I’m wondering if he may have spent the time and money to try and improve the body work as I have asked him countless times and he has repeatedly told me the body work is outstanding.

He has told me he thinks the suspension is leaking and he had finished his other toy and therefore can’t justify having this as well. Knowing he will need to spend money, I’m a bit concerned as I asked him about the sports button and he said it works as it should. Would the carbon clean sort the flatness out?

It’s just seams to be hard to find a standard one, I want the DRC’s and standard exhaust etc.

I’ve booked my flight and the boat home. I think I need to find a couple of others to see, it is fairly cheap and I don’t mind mechanical work as long as the body work is good. We have agreed a price taking into consideration the fact it’s a cat d and the issue of the suspension.

It is cheap but maybe not cheap enough. In honesty I don’t have a budget, but I’m not prepared to spend upwards of 20k unless it’s very low mileage and the exact spec I’d like
