I've been trying to help you, whilst not being able to answer the sweegie question directly (maybe you live next door to him too, I dunno where he lives), I do have some knowledge of the inner workings of ECUs, including the motronic and other engine related stuff that's relevant to your predicament. Everything I post I have done myself, I don’t pay other people to work on my stuff.

OK guys, I've been an active contributor to SRS since 2014 and now that I also have a car that actually rates on 246, I'm attempting to contribute here too. Clearly I'm treading on some well established toes in the process and it isn't appreciated. Is this really what 246 is?

Reading back, I did ask some specific questions that were important to me if not anyone else, and the answers included issues that are tangential to my specific issues. It seems pretty clear to me as a foreigner that Sweegie lives in Scotland, as do some of my relatives by the way. I found that much out by just searching and reading.

At my age I doubt that I have the years left to learn enough about every single thing about RS6 tuning and the intricacies of the map structure. I do all my own mechanical work on all my cars and understand I can't be "the man" on every aspect of several different models. If you have the time left, go for it. Personally I'd like to get some road time in too. I did mention that I appreciated the advice offered, just that my priorities were about stuff that I didn't know anything about and really wanted to know the answers.

And yes, I'm a proud long term RS4 owner and just about to be a proud RS6 owner too. Maybe the rules say you can't be both!

Me myself I do all my mechanical work myself at home but ECU electronics go beyond my capabilities and I don't see anything wrong with that. What I don't know I ask. That's one of the main reasons forums exist I believe.

Next week I'll be starting taking apart the RS6 to build the S6 and surely I'll be having a lot of questions. I hope to find helpful minds by then.

Thank you. You're actually not annoying me, but I did feel you misunderstood my best intentions to try and help you and started taking a pop - my only purpose of posting is to try and help because I have done a fair few things to mine and I enjoy sharing anything I've learnt on them (even if sometimes I misfire)

Anyway, let us know if you manage to get in touch with Sweegie and send him my thanks & regards if you do. I'm comfortable with ECU stuff generally, but he was completely another level - kind of like Neo in The Matrix.

Thanks one and all. The ECU tune issue is probably a lost cause. Sweegie read the PM I sent a week or so ago but has elected not to reply. A great pity as from what I've read he seems to have a hell of a lot to offer on here. ATM I can only guess that he provided the PO a stock tune with the rear lambdas coded out. As I can't be sure, it looks like I'll need to load a new tune once I find the one I would like. I would really have liked to try the one he wrote for himself.

First though is likely to be a TCU upgrade. Been years since I did any solder work but Gregstv is in my locality so I'd ask his advice before jumping in.

Thanks. Just checking out my gear and I have some de-solder braid left over from when Christ was a boy but nothing in the hot air stuff or soldering station. The irons I have probably pre-date the current circuit board technology. Just sorting out the more mundane issues, waiting on the KONI delivery (Dec sometime) and getting some gauges mounted.

I'm very happy with my Konis. I can't remember which perch on the rear I used (I have an avant), but will check if helpful - the car's up on stands at the mo with engine out anyway. I put them in first time on slightly harder settings - but softened them up now to 1/2 turn from full soft on the front and 1/4 on the rear which seems decent. I do have hotchkis rollbars too.

The only thing that was "odd" was the the inverted U on the bottom of the front ones is a little wider than the suspension arm - so it squashes it down a little when you bolt it up.
I don't like that, so on the todo list at the moment is a spacer just to take up that gap. Oh, and many guides say you need to remove the "bastard bolt" on the top of the upright. I didn't fancy that, they are a legendary pain - plus I found that isn't necessary, instead you can drop the top mount by removing a couple of plugs in the bodyshell - that gives you all the access you need. Agreed. In the big scheme they aren't that expensive. I'm just about to scrap my allroad so I'll have plenty of CU's to practice on first.
