Enabling CarPlay on 2017 PE?

Post by mikeyw » Sun Oct 06, 2019 11:26 am

Looking for some guidance on CarPlay on the RS6 - I’m about to go for a 2017PE but testing it yesterday there was no sign of it supporting CarPlay when I connected my iPhone.

Reading through searches on the forum it seems that I should be able to get this working but I’m not sure if that’s via an official Audi upgrade, a hack or a third party upgrade.

Any information would be very welcome - the car itself has most of what I want and it’s from a dealer I trust so I’m excited to be getting back into an RS6 after a 20 month absence but CarPlay support would I think be a deal breaker now

Options:
1) £300 for official Audi activation to your existing firmware. Stored on dealer records so futureproof incase of any subsequent MMI updates. Warranty not void. Only late 2016+
2) £120 for an MMI firmware activated by a hack, supports all facelift C7's 2015+

Stick with option 1. Unless Audi say they cant activate for pre 2016 cars, in which case Option 2.

Is option 2 relatively full on with some dude in China doing a load of stuff to your car?

Thanks - big help ! Option 1 is one I’ll pursue tomorrow ! Might be a nice closer !

I have a 67 plate PE and went the Audi dealer option. No drama and works a treat.
Currently running:
18 plate Lamborghini Huracan Performante (5.2l of V10 naturally aspirated craziness)
67 plate RS6 Performance (fully loaded)
66 plate Range Rover Autobiography (for wafting around)
16 plate Mini Cooper S convertible (lots of fun but rather skittish when thrashed)

Favourite car ever owned:
1971 Citroen DS21 - The Goddess (pure art on wheels)

I picked my 2017 PE up on Friday and Carplay is working fine. I thought it was standard?

I did option2, guy was great and it works well. audi dont know if its done properly or not. they cant tell who installed it so you can just say another audi dealer.

i wish i hadnt bothered however. there is no feedback to the dash and the mmi feels more clunky trying to navigate apple play than through the standard mmi. its obvs designed for touchscreen which we dont have

Thanks all - dealer confirmed they can do the update - point taken on the touch screen but I do have a touch screen now and still tend to use the phone for the main interactions - guess we will see when I pick it up

Hi mate,
Mine replicates the sound I have set on my iPhone for messages/Whatsapp etc and then when opened asks if I want to hear the message. I respond yes and then say what I want to send back and it confirms the message before sending. I didn't have to do anything to enable it though? Also when I plugged my phone in this morning Carplay had added a few more iPhone icons that weren't there previously.
