Here, they are often equipped with GPS and GPRS blockers anyway because they know that most desirable cars are fitted with trackers. This is still quite rare in France, but here even modest cars often have trackers fitted. Even the police have equipment in their patrol cars to radio-triangulate trackers (obvs not GPS but RF transmissions).

IMO, it helps to keep a car like this hidden. Mine is always garaged. When I drive home, I make sure I'm not being followed. Call me paranoid, but I even stop to check for magnetic trackers after going to a car meet.

Round me, the preferred way to steal cars is either keyless entry method off the drive or breaking in to get the keys. Only a mile from me one guy was dragged from his house, beaten and made to start his RS3 (it lived on the drive).

Eddie, the poor bastard, had his RS6 stolen at gunpoint! Again, only a few miles from me [Hmm, maybe time to consider moving. I don't like living so close to Eddie :boots: ]. GPS tracker not much use there.

The Clifford thing has anti-hijack. Lets them get a mile or so then cuts the fuel. I like this kind of system.

Hidden switches are useless. They always find them.
I don't know of any device that could handle the gunpoint scenerii except a machine gun in the glove box (joking, just in case someone would take the advice seriously..). Interesting comparison between both sides of the channel, I wasn't aware this was so much used in the UK.
Good thing is that the car is getting old and not that expensive on the second hand market, so if I was a thief I would probably choose another target..

Oh yeah. Blocvol. Nice concept. The Clifford system is similar IIRC, but with added alarm functions.

Back to you looks good. Cost £175. Works with google. Has output that can trigger a relay say on the fuel line.
Anyone using this ?

Looks like another 2g network device (I'm deducing that since it doesn't work with Three).

On there website. A few models from £50 to 200. There is also. Demo to track one of their own vehicles.
Must be one of them suitable
Guardian ? Cost £175. Very good reviews from people that have bought them.
No installation costs
No subscription
For extra £25 the unit comes charged up SIM card fitted. Position it in the car and ready to go.
Any movement you get a text. Maps shows you it’s location.
If the output can be linked in to a fuel cut off. I would be interested in this ?

Looks good, particularly if there's an output but except I misunderstood, but you're tied up with back2you with a monthly fee.

From what I read no monthly fee.
I think the only charge is for texts you receive ?
Or accessing it when it has been triggered
Ps. 2g or 3G. Can this be a problem???
Sorry guys I do not understand ????

The monthly fee is clearly stated here : https://back2you.com/products/classic-c ... 2593568868

2G vs 3G : it's just physics whereby the lower frequencies are less disturbed by walls and obstacles at the cost of less usable bandwidth. Like when there's a party in the flat above yours, you mostly get the bass and kick drum, not the rest of the higher frequencies... Remember also when your 20 years old Nokia phone battery could last for almost a week? For both reasons (battery life + small bandwidth requirements (+ cheaper technology / chipsets etc.)) 2G is the preferred choice for those trackers .

Didn't look further for the other devices but if they are connected they obviously rely on some network infrastructure that you'll have to pay for at some point.

If you pay the £25 ready to go fee It comes with a SIM card with £15:00 credit pre loaded and battery fully charged.
Battery power lasts for 90 days before recharge is required.
The £15:00 credit is sufficient for 12 months normal use apparently.
There is no subscription charges.
If vehicle moved you get a text alert.
You then log in for real time location on google maps.
Regards Steve.

Sounds good then, what are the costs after the first year? Still you're tied with them through their network solution, but if it works and the price is ok..

I'm not sure you are tied to them at all. As far as I can tell, you put your sim in, and the device sends direct SMS to your phone without passing through a third party server.

The problem with 2g is not the underlying technology, but that networks are stopping support for it:
