engine build 4.0 v8
hi guys
i will be looking to purchase an rs6 soon and i have a few questions......
i have 2 options
1 - buy from audi through their approved used scheme and have a warranty BUT i cannot modify it which is a big thing for me as i like to modify my cars
2 - buy private and have no warranty but have the freedom to do what i like with the car
i dont like going into car ownership not knowing what potential future costs there is regarding engine/gearbox etc, i see alot running around the 700-800bhp and this is exactly what im after HOWEVER this must be a massive stress on the standard engine. how much would an engine build be for one of these cars should it go wrong?
do these use the zf 8 speed box? what sort of power are these good for?
im guessing that a remap will show up at the main dealers when they plug the car in...........how do you guys get around this?
many thanks
matt

Re: engine build 4.0 v8
Or buy an approved used from Audi and run it for a while under the warranty.
Once mapped I think you can kiss goodbye to any warranty or good will, I don't believe there is a way around this.

I'm afraid you can't have it both ways. You either get the peace of mind or you run big power.Madmatt'sRS6 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2019 5:26 pm

The engines and gearboxes are generally strong but there have been a handful of engine failures on standard and modified cars. I don't think the mods raise the risk massively; the risk is there for a standard car too but at least you have a warranty with a standard car.
Driveshafts seem to be a weak point on modified cars but I suspect this is from launching the car with massive torque.
Yes its a ZF8 gearbox.

Re: engine build 4.0 v8
hi and thanks for the reply
i just like to know the cost of a failure should one happen, i looked at the f10 bmw m5 but the lack of support out there put me off, plenty of companies willing to re-map etc but couldnt find anything out there regarding the rebuild cost. a new engine from bmw was around £25k which is ridiculous

Re: engine build 4.0 v8
Look on eBay, there are several engines on there areound the £6-7K mark, so I’d say that’s the risk factor +labour. Mine’s remapped by MRC, so far so good but who knows what the future holds.
Re: engine build 4.0 v8
Aye, reality is that the engine and ancillaries are complex, as they are with the BMW. £25k is entirely reasonable, it'd be little different from Audi.
As above, buy a recovered engine, hope it's a goodun and suck up the cost.

Re: engine build 4.0 v8
The very reason I have moved away form big V8. way too much money and effort if when they go wrong. My turbos failed at 39k miles and trying to find turbos that did not empty my bank was difficult. If I had to put my car into the garage to fix I am sure I would have cost me the best part of £10k. Luckily I found cheap turbos and can do the work myself
A few things that are causing issues,
Failed injectors high possibility of engine damage.
Turbo oil feed screen blockage wrecking turbos.
Oil scraper ring sticking causing misfires.
Gearbox? Who knows they seem pretty strong so far. Won’t be cheap if it does let go
None of the above quick, easy or cheap fix.

Dont think so, how IT can void warranty?
