Wife. Spanner. Works.

Post by Pinkfoot » Tue Apr 09, 2019 10:43 pm

Checking out RS6 values and faults ,with a view to buying a good low miler.
Showing my wife what we were going to get and she seemed pleased.
Looked at a few late S8 models ,15/16 plate for £30k ,admired the quality and value .
Then I stupidly showed her what you get for your money and now she thinks we should have one because the "other one" is old!
I explained what a RS6 was but she is undeterred .
At the end of the day it's up to me ,but she isn't helping .
Another sleepless night I suppose.

Ever noticed that really old blokes have hairy ears? That's evolution at work - their bodies are trying to protect their hearing from the earache they get from their other halves.

Bloody hello.
The Barber took all my ear hair off so that's why it hurts!

I'm having exactly the same debate with myself.

I decided that a C6 RS6 was exactly what I wanted, but the D4 S8 is too good value to ignore - much better than the C7 RS6, which shares the engine and transmission.

On the face of it, the S8 is a bigger car with a smaller engine and less power, but in actual fact it has very similar power and weight, and a better transmission.

The end result is a bigger, newer car with better performance and better fuel consumption. Of course, both can be easily remapped to 700bhp, but even that should leave the S8 as the faster car.

The downside of the S8 is that it's not as sporty or sought after, so it depreciates faster than an RS6 of any generation. So if it's worth the same as an RS6, it will probably be worth less in future.

Regards, Nick

One is to drive the other is to be driven in (and still great for spirited runs). No brainer really!

Quite by coincidence I saw a D4 A8 in a dealers forecourt yesterday (thought it was very big, and looked like a dog's dinner compared with the sublime D3), and today I saw a C6 RS6 parked in the street. It was dark blue, the wheel arches were well filled, and it was very clean and shiny. People really look after RS6's, and this one looked great. It's a great shape.
