Water in footwell
Water in footwell
Hi,
I’ve had my car nearly two months and ever since I’ve had it I’ve noticed that it was getting misted up quite a lot. The other day I noticed that the carpet on the driver side and mat was rally wet. The passenger side was a little wet also. I thoroughly dried the the carpets last night. We had a little bit of snow today (near Manchester!) and when I got into my car after work I noticed that it was wet again!!
I’ve heard of problems with blocked drains but I’m not sure which ones to check!

Re: Water in footwell
Its absolutely f*cking comical that Audi seem incapable of building cars that have water tight interiors! And they are still having the same problems again and again. To name but a few of the worst - Audi 80 Cab, B5 A4 (and to a lesser extent the later B6 + B7 A4s), D2 A8, and now C7
I've had a Peugeot 205 for 13 years this year, and whilst the fans are absolutely <beep>, it has never once let water in like this!
(and thats ignoring the fact that Audi seem incapable of making a rear wiper last more than ten years before water gets in, plus the added complication of the washer fluid feeds breaking/leaking)

Lesser extent D2 A8, you must be joking!
I know you've never had one, but their ability to collect water in the cabin is legendary!
I personally have removed about 2 gallons (on the worst occasion) from one of mine, and had the rear air vents spraying water, like an irrigation system, over the back seats!

Re: Water in footwell
That was meant to read "B6 B7 to a less extent compared to the B5" opps! Thanks for highlighting Andrew - edited my post. The D2 A8 was horrific! And yes I recall it was blocked air con drain vents behind the centre console / pass footwell being a cause

Re: Water in footwell
I'd have them change all the carpets out. Totally unacceptable

Re: Water in footwell
Any update on this? I’ve had this same issue today after the car sitting for 5 weeks!
Mine is a 2014 car, 55,000 miles. I can see the water dripping down under the dash by the bonnet release catch. The carpet is soaked!
It’s booked in at Nottingham Audi for a service on the 25th so I’ll see what they say I suppose.

Re: Water in footwell
Interesting you say that - the bonnet release rubber grommet is where it comes through on the B5. The scuttle panel in the engine bay under the windscreen will be swimming.... and once the water level gets to a certain height (or you drive around a left hand bend and water sloshes right) the water reaches the rubber grommet and comes through the bulkhead into the interior. On the B5 B6 B7 there are two main drain holes under the battery tray and brake master cylinder. Might be worth an internet search to find similar on the C7. Must be drain holes somewhere, but not exactly easy to access?Markwes wrote: ↑Thu Feb 07, 2019 9:32 pmAny update on this? I’ve had this same issue today after the car sitting for 5 weeks!

Unfortunately on the B5, the bonnet release cable grommet is directly above the throttle pedal.... so after mine leaked, three months later the throttle pedal died. When I changed it, the part number on the one I removed from the car was a much later part number than my 99 B5, so it had already been done once previously (quite possibly due to an earlier leak!)

Re: Water in footwell
Done a bit of investigation work this morning and it looks like mine is leaking from either the pan roof or windscreen! The water is running down the roof liner, down the sides of the dash and into the foot wells.
Both the drivers side and passenger side is the same so I’m leaning more towards the pan roof leaking. It would be interesting to find out if everyone else facing this same problem have the pan roof?

Re: Water in footwell
Isn’t the pan roof suppose to be serviced after a certain timeframe? Sure it’s in the service schedule?
Maybe blocked drains etc

Re: Water in footwell
Has yours had a new windscreen? Audi had noticed mine had, but it was brought from the dealer like this so I didn’t know.
Re: Water in footwell
No still the original windscreen. I’m almost sure it’s coming from the roof.

Re: Water in footwell
Those pics definitely look more like pan roof / A pillars than through the scuttle / bulkhead

Re: Water in footwell
Mine seems to be ok now. I’ve been away for two weeks and parked it at my brothers house. I did rain a lot for a few days but the carpets aren’t wet! Maybe it’s to do with the incline on my drive? I will keep an eye on it. By the way my hasn’t got a pan roof so may be a different problem.
