VAGCOM and Fault Codes

Post by gavsteryoung » Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:20 am

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a list of all fault codes the car has ever logged since it was new?

Or once cleared are they gone for ever.

No particular reason just wondered if it kept some kind of audit history of codes....

cheers

once cleared gone forever

shame however, as you say would be nice to know

but a lot of really crap codes, eg when alarm set off, intermittent ones etc would drown out the useful ones

I guess it would be handy to keep and logs of scans done before clearing then you get to see if anything regulary appears other than alarm activations

thats a good point, but I would love to look at its mechanical past before I had the car......

It belonged to manager of Scotts of Slone Square and if the turbos had died or something else major it could have been done with no proof on the history.....

Internal Job as it were

turbo(s) can die with no fault codes...

phone audi customer services with reg no, they can give you its service history ie miles and where.

then phone the individual garages, they keep a record of work done to the car. some will tell you over the phone, others are sniffy "data protection" etc, if you are the registered keeper then usually little problem, or try another day to get another receptionist.

plate changes mess this up.

so does work not done at audi dealers/no fash cars etc

find a mate who works for any vag garage and they can print your history (very usefull and unbiased.)
