Ordering proceedure

Post by bobjebb » Mon Nov 21, 2005 12:26 pm

Having not ordered a new car for a long time, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks when putting in an order? I was probably going to go via Oxford Audi. I think it was a £500 deposit at this stage for the Avant, but maybe there is a way to pay a bigger deposit and get a better service/faster delivery? When does one generally spec the car - are you written to and kept up to date with everything? Any dealers known to be better than others for this sort of thing?

Thanks,

Bob

I don't think you can put in an official deposit on the Avant yet as it is not available (or even announced), but the saloon has a £1500 deposit to get on the confirmed waiting list.

I have ordered an avant, all that was required was to give the local dealer a letter of intention, deposits are not required until you are ordering and speccing the car of your choice, dont let anybody tell you different, this paying for a place on the list is boll** according to my dealer.

I paid £500 as a deposit for an Avant back in Sept 2004, I was told I was 4th on their list for Avants.

When the saloon was announced in April this year the dealer called and said they were formulating the list for the Avant and I would need to put down a further £1000, which I coughed up once the spec for the saloon was released. Dealer said I was the first to cough up the full £1500 so was put in 1st place on the Avant waiting list, which I have confirmed in writing.

So it all seems a bit odd, but what I can conclude is money talks, if I was one of the 3 people who were originally ahead of me on the Avant list I would be p1ssed....

From speaking to my dealer on Saturday,

He told me that alot of the UK dealers were only getting very limited stock of each type, saloon or estate, and that although they had been inundated with calls (particularly since Top Gear) they had only sold one saloon one and my Avant order was the first of the two they had to sell in 2006 !!!

It hasnt cost me a penny yet as you cant officially order an Avant yet, and as my dealer already knows me then they didnt bother asking for a holding deposit. He was still quite pleased with himself, last time it only took them 2 hours to get me to buy the Allroad, this time I held out for longer but still didnt last 24 hours !!! :D :D
