Advanced Key
Re: Advanced Key
If anyone is searching for info on the advanced key and finds this thread then, now that I have the car, let me say that Ian_C was right in saying there is an option that enables/disables whether the door opens by just touching the door handle.
So no need for faraday pouch, steering lock etc.

Re: Advanced Key
I covered this in another thread. But yes you can just turn off convenience key unlocking function via the MMI. It will still lock by touching the exterior touch pads which is a bonus.

Re: Advanced Key
Just get a faraday cage pouch to put your keys in overnight.
Cheap as chips, and they work.

Re: Advanced Key
You don't need to though as you can turn off auto unlock.

Re: Advanced Key
You can turn that off with the MMI. I've done it on mine as the door thing does my head in as you're never convinced it's actually lockedTerminator_X wrote: ↑Sun Feb 25, 2018 12:50 pmA chap on another forum coded out the door opening element, all else works as before.rjwojcik wrote:Yeap, I've slso no interest in Advanced Key. There must be a way of coding Advanced Key off.

Re: Advanced Key
Not posted for a loooong time but I have been lurking....
This thread has been very interesting to me as I tend to worry.
I initially bought a Faraday Key Pouch but getting the key in and out (and remembering to do so) is a real pia. I'm just lazy - and forgetful.
Biggest worry was not so much when the car is parked at home, but leaving the car on a Restaurant Car Park and have some t**t relay it from there while I'm inside.
So I've have had the Open With Convenience Key option un-ticked for most of the 2 months I've had the car and this makes me 'feel' a little better.
The only pain now is having to press the unlock button on the key. It's like being back in the 00's......

Re: Advanced Key
At the moment, there are only 2 choices 1) open the door with the keyless entry or 2) disable it and use the remote button.
The fact is the current implementation can be relayed with kit costing £15 as demonstrated at the white hat security conference in 2017 by Qihoo.
In their report, Qihoo describe how the technology can be made more secure but Audi use off the shelf chips that cost pennies (as do other car manufacturers) so the system is likely to stay relatively insecure.
I expect at some point, the Thatcham security test will include relay attacks on the keyless entry, and when that happens, all the manufacturers will make their systems more secure but until then, sadly just the 2 choices.

Re: Advanced Key
Just reading up on this. The misses 2018 SQ5 is keyless start but to actually get in the car its the old system with buttons. Its not keyless to get it which is better for us. Do audi do a few different keys or is this just the standard key now and the advanced key is fully keyless?
Re: Advanced Key
All cars are keyless start regardless of what options you have. The option "Advanced Key" is about unlocking the doors/boot.Kaine19 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 10:05 amJust reading up on this. "Advanced Key" (sometimes called convenience key) is Audis keyless entry system.
Keyless entry systems are not totally secure but Audi allow the unlocking function to be disabled so I needn't have worried.

Re: Advanced Key
With the reliability or consistency of mine makes it's difficult to get into even when you do have the key! Seems to have a mind of its own when it wants to work or not!
Re: Advanced Key
I disabled it.
Half the time I drive there's things in the boot I take out.
So then I close with the bootlid button.

Re: Advanced Key
You do realise you have only turned the “unlock” feature off. You can still “lock” the car via touching any of the touch pads on the handles.

Re: Advanced Key
Correct. Only on opening the car you need to press the button on the keyfob.
Not really a bother for the added security.
