Snooper warnings

Post by bobjebb » Sun Nov 20, 2005 6:03 pm

I have made the journey between junc 10 and 12 (A3-M4 ish) clockwise a few times recently, and before the major 40mph roadworks, on a stretch that has no restrictions (strange but true) my snooper is consistantly warning me of "gatsos 70mph limit" none are visible, yet as soon as I pass one that it says is there, it starts again - probably does it 5-6 times without coming up for air.

Anyone noticed this? Is there something else here thats causing the warning? Ta

If it is in the variable speed area, there are Gatsos on the back face of every gantry over the motorway, got flashed by one the other week, system obviously falls over when it detects an Irish plate, no LIP in the post in the allowed time period :piss: :smile_smoking:

I haven't been south of the M4 recently, but between M4 and M40, not all of the gantries are actually equiped with Gatsos. You can tell which ones are because they have a small antenna at the nearside end of the gantry. My RoadPilot definitely knows which ones are equiped.

M25 has cameras on the gantries (not all though) from J10 to J15. They DO flash some people, but not many - I know as I used to drive from Brighton to Uxbridge every day 0.o. They don't seem to get anyone doing up to 80, although I wouldn't guarantee they don't

Combined with this, there are of course the temporary ones which are constantly being moved to try and keep people below the 40mph limit within the roadworks, and I know for a fact that those ones will nobble almost anybody.

The dsame thing occurs on a stretch of the M42, before B'Ham airport... I never knew that gatso were located on gantries... what is the rule about them having to be visible then?

Thanks

There is no law to say that they have to be visible (yet), but councils are advised to make them prominent. The whole idea is to slow traffic down after all and not make revenue after all...

When you are heading the opposite direction, take a look at the gantries. The cameras are quite visible going the other way.

Personally, I don't mind the gatso's too much, as they only monitor a fixed location. I do have an issue with the use of SPECS though. On a recent trip up north, I went through some roadworks I think on the M40 and there was a stretch of over 6 miles of road which had the goddam things on with a 40mph speed limit. There were about 7 or 8 cars visible to me at any one time and not a single workman in sight. Travelling for 6 miles at 40 mph when it was completely unnecessary annoyed me no end.

Anyway, best thing to do is ensure that your snooper, road angel or whatever gadget you use is always up to date and trust it to tell you where they are
