Insurance - where is best to try

Started the annual process of trying to haggle a good deal for insuring my MY15 B8 RS4.

WTF - cheapest quote is £1,100 versus paying £750 last year.

How on earth has it gone up that much with no change in circumstances?!

For all the facts, I do about 5k Miles a year. 10+ yrs NCB, no accidents or penalty points. 1 car household. Wife as named driver. Kept on SW London street.

I asked about getting a tracker and that adds (!!) to my premium payable.

Apparently only way for this to come down is to move and put the car off-road and even better, in a garage.

Any ideas for insurance brokers? I've tried Adrian Flux.

Yea it must be the area and street parking? Mines only 600 at 31, 15k a year and speeding points.

I should have said I'm 31.

I'm also reading that the insurance tax has gone up significantly and so that too is partly to explain.

I will try and find out if there is an increase in car related incidents in my area

I've been with sky insurance for both cars for a couple of years - nobody else had been able to beat their prices. Both cars have mods declared though.

Knocked mine down from 900 to 600 via confused.com.
Bad history incl. A ban and car being stolen recovered.,

So after 2 weeks of solidly calling around everywhere Sky Insurance has come out on top. However, the insurer (Ageas) is asking for a tracker to be fitted. Does anyone have any experience with the Vodafone telematics one (formally cobratrak)? Any idea of cost for a thatcham 6 set-up?

Have you tried Direct Line? Just insured my C7 RS6 PE for £559 for the year.

I used cornmarket insurance last year for my bike..

They were unable to give me a good price..however they do offer to beat any quote you get by 10%.

I gave them my login details they checked and gave me 10% off

They do this for cars aswell..
Worth a try.

I found Adrian Flux were good for modified cars but not very good for standard cars.
Go compare seems to give a good baseline for the cheapest for me and i usually use this as bargaining with my current insurer.

With respect to Tracker prices this seems to be about the same as anywhere else charge and comapres features so quite handy:

If you are only getting the tracker for insurance purposes and don't actually want your car back if stolen then the cheapest insurance approved one will do.

I ended up with SkyInsurance in the end (thanks for the recommendation Faisal) and went with the Vodafone Connect 6 tracker. All in it was £300 cheaper than anyone else.
I needed the tracker because apparently central London thefts are ridiculous at the moment and the RS4 and Golf R are being really targeted.

I got the tracker fitted by VisualTelematics (http://www.just-tracking.co.uk) who were really good. My experience with 'TrackerFit' was awful however. It's real hit-or-miss so glad I found a good one.

Has anybodys insurance gone up this year? Ours has gone up from £283 to £402, no change to the policy at all. Currently with Diamond (been with them/admiral for around 8 years now) and they've now also stopped the like-for-like cover on modifocations which is a pisser.

I have come from a Porsche 911 997 gen2 2010 and a Mercedes C220cdi estate 2014 and consolidated to a 2015 RS4 , when my insurance renewal came in from my broker it was sky high, £500 more than the 911 & C220!!!! So just tried Confused.dot.com and LV came in at £261. I am 62 with full ncd - i suspect my costs are going UP with age !!!!

I would urge anyone not to use Adrian Flux, if the car is modified they will stick you with ERS (Equity Red Star), who are quite frankly the worst insurance company I have ever had dealings with!! I had a moped delivery driver overtake vehicles on a bend behind me while I was attempting to turn into a side road, as a result the moped rider could not see me indicating and went straight into the side of my car. This happened back on January 2016 and only had the case closed 3 weeks ago. It took 2 1/2 years to get the claim resolved, where I was found not at fault (it went to court and caused me and my pregnant partner no end of stress). Adrian Flux in the meantime have charged me additional premiums because of an ''open claim'' for the last two years. My insurance prior to the incident was in the region of £550. This year cost me £1000 at 32 years old with 10 years no claims bonus, which is an insult if you ask me. I have phoned AF so many times to complain, but they are not interested. I attempted to cancel my policy with them after 19 days of taking it out this year as I was so appauled by their service but they refused to refund me what I was owed (I pay my insurance annually, so I had paid £1000 upfront) So for 19 days insurance they would only refund me £260 and wanted to keep the £740 for fees and charges. I had no choice but to keep the policy in the end.

Now the case is closed I thought great, I'll be owed a substantial amount. They offered me £205 back for both years increased premiums, which resulted in me getting rather annoyed on the phone. They have only refunded me £111 and the remainder is for ERS admin charges.

Do not be fooled into buying insurance with these absolute con artists just because the price seems cheap to start with, you will pay for it in far more ways if anything happens in the term you're with them. Their customer service is truly shocking and they are only interested in robbing their clients with made up admin charges.
