Strange noise from the front wheels

Post by Foxy » Fri Feb 23, 2018 9:38 am

I've owned my PE from new since last September and have now had 4 or 5 incidents of a strange, metallic whiring noise coming from (what sounds like) the nearside front wheel, it's akin to the sound of an old steam train coming to a halt. The first couple of times I assumed something had got caught up in the wheel as it only lasts for a few seconds and I still think that's the case, but it's happened so often that I am beginning to wonder. Anyone else?

Is it normal? Absolutely not.
You have a new PE, get it to the dealers and tell them to sort it.

And tell them you want the B9 rs4 demo while they investigate

I think it's just debris getting caught in the wheel and figured it may have something to do with the design and/or size of the wheel, no visual clues or damage but wondered if other owners had experienced the same. I will probably book it in for an inspection.

On the odd occasion I’ve had this but usually when driving over a particular road surface. It is usually a loose stone from the road surface that gets caught between the outside of the disc and the shielding for the disc.

Sometimes working the brakes or just reversing seems to clear it.
