fault code`s

Post by quattro999 » Sat Nov 12, 2005 12:45 pm

, done a faulf code test on car and came up with 3,,

1... 041c, is os seat air bag ,, light on dash but would not re-set
2... 4480, is bank 1 , running lean
3... 4482, is bank 2 , running lean,,
was not vag com used but a vag fault code reader, as try`d to re-set airbag light but not able to ,, have to take to dealer,,

but came accross running lean code`s,, any ideas what could cause this or a possible cure ,, once again unable to clear ,,,

2 & 3 running lean is likely to be the maf.

Can you run Vag-com and log engine block 003? maf should max out at 213 g/s full throttle, 5500 rpm. If it is lower, the maf is reading low and telling the engine there is less air coming that actually is. This means the ecu gives less fuel (for less air), so lean fault codes.

Agree with David, Bank 1&2 lean codes is almost always MAF.

Fault code will not return straight away.....

when you clear the codes it resets data. It takes a while before the car recalculates the values.... once it falls outside the parameters it will log a fault....

You may find it will take a few tanks of fuel before it shows the code again, and how quickly depends on how knackerd the MAF is.

@buzzard: your MAF is gone, you should be getting at least 200 g/s during a FATS run. go to your local friendly Audi dealer and ask for an exchange unit...

sounds like the maf then , al have to pop down to local dealer and get airbag light re-set,, and see if the maf is gone,, seems like all the things that go wrong on the s4 is needing done like rattling n/s manifold , maf ,
and timing belt change required , whidn i dont mind the belt change as thats just maintance,, , chip one day once the other troubles have been addressed,, ..

back to the running lean , then if it reads those fault codes then it must be down on power then??? .. .. p.s only had the car for 4 weeks now, so its all new , previous car was a chipped s2 avant , which did seem quicker ,,,, :?

There is a calculation you can do to get your theoretical power from the airflow. When my MAF went I was getting the same air flow figures that buzzard was getting and I calculated I was getting about 200bhp instead of the full 265. Meaning I was down by 65!

Get it changed, your S4 should at least feel the same as the S2

RE Airbag light, try playing with the connections under your seat, Blue in colour I think. On some cars they are renowned for being poo.

got round to looking into fault codes again, before taking to local dealer,,
so disconnected battery for half an hour before touching the plug under the os seat, cleaned terminals and checked for kinks or breaks in the wire,, none found, so re-connected battery, and checked fault codes again, light was on once battery was connected ,, but this time fault code cleared and light out ,phew!!!,,
now also the other codes have gone , where it said it was running lean, but will keep checking once in a while ,, but now i have a new code this time which could have been there before as a mate at work done the first checks,,

code .... 4552.. is bank1, camshaft pos.-sensor=>g163 open circuit/short to positve ??????????? what is that then?

so took car for run , once warmed up appeared ok, but then when wot in 3rd gear it just bogged down and went no where, so backed off , ,,

now i have a well what appears to be a kangaroo effect when wot, ??

is this related to fault code or someother prob?? car idles fine and normal driving car is ok ???

HELP!!
