Is this right? Or is that B/S I can smell??

Post by Broken Record » Mon Jan 08, 2018 10:21 pm

I have a 2013 B8 RS4 which is currently in the workshop having a few warranty issues sorted as you do, wont bore you with the long list of stuff apart from one which I have never came across before.
While stationary with the engine running in park handbrake on etc, just blip the throttle to around 2 - 3k revs, while doing this does your drivers door card lights ie window controls and memory seat button lighting go out and then come back on 2 secs later, the MMI screen also goes off but not the passenger door?

Audi UK have said this is normal.... and its to preventing power spikes from revving the engine damaging the ECU, so my questions to you guys are... Why don't all the door card lights both sides go out, just drivers door card and MMi screen, my other Audi's have not done this, do any of your cars do this?

I would really appreciate any of you with similar aged cars to try this and tell me if it happens the same in your cars.

Thanks for any help in advance, Jay.

Sounds like dealership BS to me.

Never reved mine like that whilst stationary, but will try giving it a go when I'm in it next and all warmed up. Gut tells me that nothing untoward will happen.

B*llocks. Did that a few times and never experienced that (on a 2015 nogaro...)

Next time you're in, ask if he can see the marks from where you removed the handle from your back (as you're not a mug...)

Just got back from dropping the kids off at school so the car is nice and warm, so thought I'd try it for you.
Gave it a few blips between 2 and 3k revs then a big rev to see if that made any difference.
Nothing went off, no lights dimmed or even flickered.
Thats BS you can certainly smell!

Just tried this in neutral and in park, no fault found.

I'm calling BS.

A big thank you guys for trying this out, I only came across this by accident while waiting for my good lady to finish getting ready, I'm sure we've all been there...waiting and waiting the old I will only be five minutes

I will be straight on the phone to Audi in the morning to tell them its unacceptable to call it normal and I want it sorting!!
These forums are brilliant, Audi UK must hate them :|

Once again thanks all for helping

Funnily enough, this very forum started due to the B5 RS4 bendy wheel issue. Audi just attempted to brush the issue under the carpet until voices united.....

Well guys, Audi have had my car for over a week and still waiting for a back order part, they fixed everything on my list including 2 x new front shocks which i didn't expect but will not fix the revving/lights problem as Audi UK still say its normal and won't approve the work at my local dealer, who I have to say have been very good with me I Can't fault them at all.

So I guess its time to break out the emails to Audi customer services and get them to explain to me why my RS4 is the only one in the country which suffers from this problem and why it can not be fixed!! Looking forward to hear their argument about how the ECU is shutting the door card and MMi down only

Cheers all.

Can you video the fault with your car? I'd be happy to do the same and post on YouTube. Good luck

Thanks Grittle and Sam, I will probably not get the car back until next weekend, and then I will speak to the techs in person before contacting customer services just to make sure I'm happy with everything else what has been done with the car.
I will make a video once its home so you can see first hand whats going on.

Thanks guys.

Update time guys just picked the car up from the dealers £1072.99 lighter :boohoo: and turns out Audi have issued a TPI, Dash insert: Radio or air conditioning control panel fail briefly. And states theirs no fix, its normal. :piss:

Anyway I was a bit sneaky and did the old distraction technique with service desk " Hey look at that... A badger with a gun" and snapped a quick pic on my phone.
At least it takes the worry out of it now i know its normal! :bash:
