New A7

Posting this here as i think the A7 will most probably share the exact same interior as the new A6.
Should give us a bit of insight into the new A6 interior design.

Not too inspiring but I like the interior and tech hints. I was no fan of the current A7 but don't like what I see there, however judgement should be reserved until it's skin and bones.

The thing that i can't stand in the new cars is the gear lever.
Not only am i not too keen on the look of the lever, i hate the feel of it too. I like to physically feel i am engaging the gear with the gear selector.

Also what is wrong with adjusting the air conditioner with physical buttons these days?

You say that like the car is a manual!!!

Also what is wrong with adjusting the air conditioner with physical buttons these days?

Same as what is wrong with changing gear yourself
Sticking your head out the drivers window to park
Using a lever as the handbrake
Adjusting the steering column by hand
Putting the wipers on yourself
Putting the headlights on yourself
Pressing a remote button to lock and unlock
Putting a key in the ignition to start the engine

I definitely do not agree with everything Clarkson says or does, but if we all drove Caterham 7s with a metal spike sticking out of the steering wheel at the driers face (like an orange juicer!) people would actually concentrate whilst driving

What i mean is if you have physical buttons to raise and lower the temperature, you are less likely to take your eyes off the road to look down at the screen trying to find the exact location on the touch screens.

I am not saying it like it is a manual car, all i am saying is it has that physical feel that the car is engaging into gear. With these new digital gear knobs i found myself looking down to see if the gear was out of neutral when i was given a A4 courtesy car. I imagine you get used to it.

Know exactly what you are referring to. Lots of comments about this subject on the new Velar and Panamera with their slick black-glass look centre consoles.

Not sampled the Velar, I couldn’t get past the exterior without heaving, but the Panamera is tactile.

Agree on the gear lever though, I’m not a fan of that stubby thing. Bloody R8 has it, a bit nasty IMO. OK in a big cruiser but not in something with a sporty intentions.

as others have said - Knobs. As we all know knobs are great for fingers to twiddle with. Heck I bet we all have have grown up with twiddling with knobs - its what we are used to and it works. You don't have to look down to twiddle effectively with a knob - you can feel it move.

I think ive said enough..... yes I don't like the touch screen things in cars. Tried it in a XC90, hard work when moving back and forth, up and down and nope not as good as knobs.
