There’s a few R26 Megane’s available for that sort of money too. E36’s are a good base, you’d be able to build a great car from.

Do you have a preference which wheels are driven?

No preference, but I think I'd want a car already set up for the track for the 3-4K mark. I'd love to be able to dedicate some time to a build, and I plan to in a few years, for now I'm looking for something that is cheap, has cheap consumables, something to learn in, and something I won't lose to much sleep over if I put it in the wall.

All that said, I do keep finding myself looking at the E36, which car/engine is the best base?
