Replacing front parking camera

Post by bn8959 » Thu Oct 05, 2017 10:22 pm

I’ve managed to get a stone chip on the front parking camera
Annoyingly it tries to focus on the mark so makes it useless. Had a quote for £148 for a replacement, but I was wondering how hard it would be replace myself?

You got my rear cam from ebay (brand new but forgot price, tought 50€). Not sure in the RS case as it has a big stock cooler then my s6, but normally you can unbolt the cover plate from inside (between cooler and grill).
You will get an error the cam isn't calibrated (no biggy) but could be the cam will need to be realigned at the dealer.

Buy one on ebay for about £50-£70 and replace it yourself if your a bit nimble and dont have elephant hands. It can be done with the bumper in situ but you need a mirror to locate the 2 torx screws holding the camera bracket.
Keep the ignition off when you do it and you 'shouldn't' get an error code

Thanks for the info! Think it’s worth a try.
