TRACKING / SUSPENTION HELP

Post by RS6MAN » Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:20 pm

Hi guys
Ok as some of you may now know I'm a bit anal (non homo - haha) when it comes to my cars and always make sure everything is running perfect and driving spot on.
Since I've had my car I've spent a fortune on mods and its running great.
What I have noticed is in the time I've had it; I've had its tracking done 3 times. I know the roads in slough are terrible but nothing warrants having to do the tracking 3 times in 2 months.
The car is currently running on DRC and my gut is saying its something to do with the suspension or bushes thats causing this.
Anyone had this before? What did you find it was?

Now I've just got pricing for H&R Anti Roll bar kit and KW V3 suspension from a local VAG specialist who are a KW dealer so I'm sure they would know how to fit them.
Now my second question is when you replace the DRC what do you do to the DRC lines? Do you just black them off or remove the whole system?

Also last question how do the KW V3s drive? In terms of comfort etc? I like the ride to be conformable but at the same time agile.

Views and opinions on the above please guys

I'll be following this with interest: my B7 is still on DRC but I'd like to be prepared for when it does fail. I had KW V3s on my old C5 RS6. It cornered well but it was a bit of a bone-shaker compared to the DRC.

My old rs4 saloon had v3s.
When I test drove my current one which has drc I almost walked away, thinking something was up with it! Lol The v3s felt really firm and a nice drive, jumping into the drc car and it did feel pretty slack. I still brought it though!
And mrc are fitting v3s and h&r arbs to it later this month.
It is firmer, but I think it was better to drive personally

What could be causing this tracking issue?
Also when you say firm can you feel all humps and hes in the road or does it mask them pretty well?

Bilstein do a set b16's? Similar money I think? I've gone with the kw's as had them before and pretty good rep.
It was a firmer rise than drc but I did prefer it.

Anyways I thought you were getting a BMW?! Have you seen sense?! Lol

Hahaha not sense and id still love an M5.
Unfortunately the market at the moment is full of numptys looking for dogs not knowing what a well looked after RS4 actually is.
I bought mine for 24k and have spent 6-7k on mods and have it up for 26k which if I was in the market would bit the sellers arm off.
It needs absolutely nothing and any common issues have been rectified.
But to some buying a 14k cat c/d with supposedly it only having the seats stolen is more appealing. When in actual fact it was probably written off and repaired.
I refuse to let it go for peanuts and everytime I drive it i realize what a raw car it is and how they dont make cars like this anymore!
Are you not selling yours?

I did think about it To free money up for buying a house. But I saw sense And am keeping car. I paid 23k and have spent 4K at Mrc before coilovers etc.
Would never get a decent price for it. Hopefully supercharger is on cards before Xmas! I've fixed all common faults etc, it's a real decent car now.

KW's and pirates ARB's are awesome. It also allows you to create RNSE weight the car. I would have to t checked out at a proper geo place like Centre of Gravity. They'll check over all suspension components and make sure there isn't play in any bushes, etc.

Given the age of these cars it's likely some, or all of the bushes are shot or on their way out. You can replace the arms with OE Lemforder form somewhere like allgermanparts.co.uk who are a great and reliable company. Prices are c.50% of dealers. Obviously other brands such as Febi, Meyle, etc are available cheaper still.

are you taking it to the same place for wheel alignment? or are you feeling something wrong with the car>?
no matter where you take it-even if its just been done they will say it needs re-aligned
garages etc do after all have to make the expensive equipment pay for itself...

If the DRC is fine, why not just fit KW adjustable springs?
When properly set up the handling is sublime, plus you get the ride height you want, and the benefit of the DRC setup.

MRC, CamSpec, or QS Tuning would all be able to sort it out for you.
