Test Drivers

Is it regular to allow any old fellow drive my car at high speed when they are likely (at best) to have 3rd party insurance? Or do sellers tend to take potential buyers out as passengers only?

I would do passenger only or cash in your hand just in case + 3rd party insurance...

Hmm interesting dilema. Never thought about this before as this is the most expensive car I've ever owned by a long shot. I'm not sure what I'd do. In the first instance a passenger ride. They would definitely have to have 3rd party cover and proof of it. I'd probably choose the road for their test drive.

I don't think having the kind of cash we're talking about on your person is practical when you are potentailly only looking at cars.

Likewise - I've always PX'd 'expensive' cars before, never sold anything of this performance privately. I think it's definately passenger ride only, they'd be impressed enough to buy it on the spot. It feels even faster in the passenger seat...

Hi John - well I was thinking about it, just because of pressure from the boss - she thinks I'm going to kill myself... and she'd be right at this rate, cos I haven't had ONE frigging phone call. Why does this always happen to me? I have never been able to sell a car privately. I keep checking the ad to make sure I've written the phone number down right. It's a blinder aswell, Moan moan.

So what are you going to replace it with Bob? What's on the short list?

Bob it took me just 3 weeks...it only takes one phone call ! Luckily I only had 2 test drives but was willing to wait for the right offer. How about 'spraying' your white seats black ? Good luck.

Believe it or not I went to Silverstone today to look at a Tuscan S... Mad I know but always fancied another one one day. Especially as I use the wife's car day to day. If the new RS4 was available in Avant form now, it'd be a no brainer.... Oh, and if my premium bonds come up:

Having said all that, I'm sure i'll be keeping mine for the foreseeable future, it was either sell pre cam belt service/brake replacement or spend the money plus a warranty and enjoy it. John, that may include re-trimming the seats one day!

Nooo! Those white seats are a thing of beauty! I'm currently looking for an S4, and black with white recaros is my dream combination. I'd have thought the Goodwood Green was a bigger barrier than the interior colour.

Thought that would be an observation, and I guess, in fact I know I'm in the minority, (see little bouncy cars in the 'Smilies', no Goodwood!) but it's hardly turquoise, it's BRG, dark and very understated which is what I've always loved about the car. I'm obviously missing the point - loud is what people want!

Not spoiling for a fight as I'd clearly loose, just frustrating I suppose...

Cheers

PS how much is a complete respray? :boohoo:

PPS The Tuscan's interior was swathed in "Dusty Blush" purple with matching steering wheel and had a pastal "Summer Morn Sky" blue dash.

There are "understated" colours and there are "grandad" colours. I'm afraid that green is a grandad colour. IIRC, a recent survey showed that silver is good, but metallic black is the best colour for residual value. Green isn't as bad as beige or brown, but it's pretty low down on peoples' favourites list.

Someone will want it; unfortunately, you may have to take a hit on the price to sell it though :(

Apparently white is the worst!
