yup i had that but got it done anyway.

I'm embarrassed to say i don't know who to credit, but someone previously pointed out that it has a fill and drain plug, why would that be?
(flippant maybe, but a damn good point)

Despite Audi saying the GB's are "sealed for the life of the car", ZF who actually make the box, say change the oil every 62k miles (100k KM) or 8 years for ANY GB they make! - https://www.zf.com/corporate/en_de/afte ... ang_1.html

Good Job Audi!

Audi have been saying that for nearly 40 years to my knowledge - probably for longer than that if truth be known. I have a 1981 quattro handbook which states that both the gearbox and diffs are filled for life; I've also got service instructions from the same period that cover 'box and diff oil changes.

That link doesn't work, but for a long time ZF have "recommended" gearbox services for vehicles subject to heavy/hard/sporty (not the words they use though) use. Audi don't.

Thanks. I think that has been updated subtly from earlier versions I have seen, it now seems to definitely recommend a service at least every 8 years and possibly earlier depending on the mileage and driving style.
Very useful.

It does make me wonder about the litigation side if ZF say "service it" yet Audi say "for the life of the vehicle" should something happen to the GB and you decided to sue Audi. If a court heard that the GB manufacterer said it needs doing then would Audi even have a legal leg to stand on?

Good point on the litigation, i guess Audi would be going against manufacturers advice, in any event the customer is Audi's so i guess they would have to sort it?

Wonder if anyone with a 100% standard car and full audi service history has ever had a gearbox fail and had it fixed completely under warranty without any argument from the dealership.

as a newbie about to purchase I was looking into this just yesterday and I'm sure when trawling audi's website it suggested gearbox oil change at 38,000/40,000 miles or so and even had a price for it. Didnt actually say in the "service" area of the website which car they were referring to. Is it the new C7's that are advised to have this done?

Hi everyone,

I've done the gearbox service in Feb ( 80.000kms) this year.
It was in ZF in France, and to be honest now I'm more quite for the next 8 years of the car.
that's not a huge cost compare to a new gearbox in case of failure.

Cheers.

I'm coming up for 8 years and 60k in November and I'd like to keep the Audi service record going, I'd like the gearbox servicing, does anyone know if Audi will do this if asked and are they likely to be able to answer my second question which is "have you done this before?".

I'd happily use a specialist but not sure if we have any between York/Leeds/Harrogate/Teeside
